I've received one already and wrote them. I wonder how many names they will give out per email address, I have about 6 email addresses I could use to rescue our fellow Americans. Even if I don't have time to write all of them and tell them what I am doing, at least I will have prevented a Brit from contacting them. Although, I wonder if it will help Bush to have these citizens receiving this interference? I would be furious if I received one of their letters.

It appears that if you try to get a second Clark County address from an email address you have already used, you get the same Clark County address they already sent you. So you seem to be limited to one per email address. So I have received 5 and unless I use my kids or open new email addresses up, that is all I will be able to rescue.

UK Paper Urges Readers to Lobby US Voters

(CNSNews.com) - A left-wing newspaper in Britain is urging its readers to send letters to registered voters in a "swing county" in the battleground state of Ohio, to share their opinions on next month's presidential election.

The Guardian said its "Operation Clark County" could enable foreigners to make clear to U.S. voters how important the election was in the eyes of the outside world.

"Of course, who you urge your voter to support is entirely up to you," it said, although the paper's editorial policy is strongly anti-Bush, and the "Operation Clark County" webpage carries a link to letters from "three prominent Britons," all strongly urging Americans to support Sen. John Kerry.

Elsewhere on the website, the Guardian introduced the campaign with the blurb: "What voters around the world can do to beat Bush."

On the website, anyone can type in an email address and be sent the name and mailing address of one registered voter in Clark County who is not affiliated with a political party.

Al Gore won Clark County in 2000 by 27,984 votes to Bush's 27,660, but Ohio went to Bush by 50 percent to 46.

"You may not have heard of it, but it's one of the most marginal areas in one of the most marginal states," the Guardian said of Clark County. "It's a place where a change of mind among just a few voters could make a real difference."

The paper urged letter-writers to be courteous and to "remember that it's unusual to receive a lobbying letter from someone in another country."

It said it would only give out each U.S. voter's name once. "We don't want individual Clark County voters bombarded with lobbying letters so this site will assign only one name and address to each user -- please don't pass yours on to anyone else."

The newspaper conceded that the exercise might be counterproductive.

"The Bush/Cheney campaign has made a point of portraying Kerry as overly concerned about what other nations think, and the Democrat's ambiguous debate point about American foreign policy decisions needing to pass a 'global test' has become one of the president's key lines of attack."

The Guardian campaign comes at a time yet another poll of international opinions indicates a strong preference for Kerry over Bush among respondents in 10 countries in Europe, Asia and North America.

Participating daily newspapers in Canada, Mexico, Japan, South Korea, Australia, Britain, France, Spain, Russia and Israel, were due to publish the results of the survey on Friday/Saturday.

A majority of respondents in Israel and Russia supported Bush over Kerry, while those in the other eight countries backed Kerry:

In response to another question, a majority or plurality of respondents in seven of the 10 countries said they had a worse rather than better opinion of the U.S. now, than two to three years ago. Israel and South Korea were the exceptions, while the question was not asked in the tenth country, Russia.

On average, 68 percent of those taking part in the 10 countries said that they had a favorable view of Americans as individuals.

The polls were conducted in September and early October, and most margins of error were around three percentage points.

Subversion

The Guardian said that on the day it launched its "Operation Clark County" this week, it received requests from more than 3,000 readers for names and addresses of Ohio voters.

Whether all those requests are from foreigners wanting to influence the election is debatable, however.

Several conservative online "bloggers" are urging their readers to subvert the campaign by requesting a name and address -- with no intention of writing to the Ohio voter -- until the Guardian runs out of names to hand out.

A popular blogger in Australia, Tim Blair, is promoting a retaliatory campaign, asking readers to deluge Guardian journalists with emails (he provides addresses).

"You may not have heard of it, but it's one of the most marginal newspapers in one of the most marginal media cultures on earth," Blair quips.

"It's a place where a change of mind among just a few journalists could make a real difference. Pick one, two, three, or all the names and send your message."

When in the Course of an election it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political power which a foreign newspaper attempts to exert upon the electorate of a Sovereign Nation and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature's God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation.

For attempting to interfere in our electoral process

For attempting to subvert our election laws

For attempting to interfere in the Sovereign right of an electorate to choose their officials without foreign interference

Fort campbell - I just realized this in an earlier post of yours - the author of that one letter:

First, spy novelist [b]John Le Carré, whose real name is David Cornwell. In his letter to an Ohio voter he says:

"Probably no American president in all history has been so universally hated abroad as George W Bush: for his bullying unilateralism, his dismissal of international treaties, his reckless indifference to the aspirations of other nations and cultures, his contempt for institutions of world government, and above all for misusing the cause of anti-terrorism in order to unleash an illegal war." [/b]

Is this idiot trying to win the trip tp Ohio or is he just dumb enough to solidify the fact that almost 50% of the American public will now never buy one of his bad books? Maybe I should give this it's own thread to give it attention. Twisted Evil
