CNN is on the NBC story now
http://edition.cnn.com/2004/WORLD/meast/10/26/iraq.explosives/
Quote: | Report: Explosives already gone when U.S. troops arrived NBC News says its crew was embedded with soldiers at time
(CNN) -- The mystery surrounding the disappearance of 380 tons of powerful explosives from a storage depot in Iraq has taken a new twist, after a network embedded with the U.S. military during the invasion of Iraq reported that the material had already vanished by the time American troops arrived.
NBC News reported that on April 10, 2003, its crew was embedded with the U.S. Army's 101st Airborne Division when troops arrived at the Al Qaqaa storage facility south of Baghdad.
While the troops found large stockpiles of conventional explosives, they did not find HMX or RDX, the types of powerful explosives that reportedly went missing, according to NBC.
The International Atomic Energy revealed Monday that it had been told two weeks ago by the Iraqi government that 380 tons of HMX and RDX disappeared from Al Qaqaa after Saddam Hussein's government fell.
In a letter to the IAEA dated October 10, Iraq's director of planning, Mohammed Abbas, said the material disappeared sometime after Saddam's regime fell in April 2003, which he attributed to "the theft and looting of the governmental installations due to lack of security."
Baghdad fell on April 9, 2003. According to NBC, troops from the 101st Airborne arrived the next day to find that the material was already gone. |

Now all all of the mice have to find some place to hide. Explosives HMMM?
I wonder if those didn't go the way of all of Saddams chemical and biological weapons, the ones that Kerry made such a big deal of.
NO WMDs, BAH!!
It's common knowledge amongst those who make it their business to know that all during the so called UN embargo Syrias Assad was bootlegging Saddams oil on the black market for a handsome profit along with those slick hands in the UN. In the months before the war began, Saddam smuggled all of his stock pile off to Syria right under the noses of the inspectors.
Today the remnants of Saddams family and his Bathist cronies are holed up in Syria and still playing the game of fund the terrorist. That is the real source of the present insurgency. Seal the border with Syria (not an easy thing to do) and you put an end to it. The only realistic solution would be to invade Syria and give them the same treatment that we gave Saddam. But I suppose that some will call me a war monger. Heaven forbid???
Syria is a lynch pin in the world terrorist network. Pull that one and the whole thing will fall apart. Even the Iranians aren't that stupid to want to continue the business. They don't have any real stock in the jihad business. They know full well that it's in their interest to enter into peaceful agreement with the west. _________________ Hey swifty, I'm with you, Just watch you don't get "Kerry'd away in the propwash

From today's NYTimes web site. No retraction! Am I missing something here?

DAVENPORT, Iowa, Oct. 25 - The White House sought on Monday to explain the disappearance of 380 tons of high explosives in Iraq that American forces were supposed to secure, as Senator John Kerry seized on the missing cache as "one of the great blunders of Iraq" and said President Bush's "incredible incompetence" had put American troops at risk. |

The New York Slimes will not retract this, and that will further destroy any little shred of credibility they might still have. The truth is getting out, and it's the New York Slimes that looks bad.
Also, if these weapons were sooooooooooooooooooooo horrible, then is that not further justification for going into Iraq and ousting Mad Man Hussein??? If Kerry had his way, those weapons would still be under the control of Saddam, and maybe that's a point that could be made against Kerry, along with his sheer idiocy at believing the Slimes and making a fool of himself.
Looks like their October Surprise just surprised them.

Fox reported this morning that Kerry stated he is not backing down from criticizing the pres over the missing explosives. What a dumb a..
He's giving a "major" foreign speech today in Wisconsin and I suppose he'll drone on about the weapons cache again. He'll just look more of a fool than ever.
NYT has no credibility left. We all know their game. _________________ Sister to a Marine vet who served in Vietnam and proud of it.
