Sampley: Kerry 'Bird' Shot May Have Been Captured on Film
Newsmax June 4, 2004
Former Green Beret Ted Sampley, who confronted Sen. John Kerry at Washington, D.C.'s Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall on Monday, said today that photographers were in the vicinity and may have captured Kerry "flipping the bird" to him.
"There were some cameras," Sampley told WTN-Nashville radio host Steve Gill. "A reporter came up to me and asked me my name."
"I assume it was a reporter. It may have been somebody from the Kerry campaign," added Sampley, who heads up the group Vietnam Veterans Against John Kerry.
As reported Monday by NewsMax.com's John LeBoutillier, the veterans advocate approached the top Democrat that morning and told him, "I am here to escort you away from the Wall because you do not belong here."
When Kerry turned away and began to talk to a group of schoolchildren, Sampley opened his jacket to uncover a T-shirt reading "Hanoi John."
"Kerry does not belong at the Wall because he betrayed the brave soldiers who fought in Vietnam," Sampley told the children.
At that point the presidential candidate allegedly flashed "the bird" at the ex-Green Beret.
Though Kerry's visit to the Wall was widely covered, Sampley said that he didn't think the insulting hand gesture was captured by any of the TV news crews on hand. "I did not see any big television cameras," he told Gill.
NewsMax.com has been unable to determine whether the still photographers nearby were press, private citizens or part of the top Democrat's publicity team. So far, no photograph of the incident has surfaced.
Sampley said the confrontation was inadvertent, explaining that he was there with the veterans motorcycle group, Rolling Thunder, when "someone called to me and told me, 'Kerry's over at the Wall.'"
"Our organization [VVAK], we're advocating that any veteran who encounters Kerry anywhere should challenge him," he told Gill. "Since I'm leading the organization, I had to lead by example."
Sampley said that Kerry initially managed to keep his cool during the confrontation, but blew a gasket after a crowd started to gather.
"He looked around and some more vets were starting to show up," Sampley told Gill. "They heard the commotion. A few more started to heckle him a bit."
As Kerry turned to leave, said Sampley, "he walked by me - he was about 40-50 feet from the kids and maybe 15-20 feet from me - he turned around and after all that coolness and calmness, I guess he just couldn't hold it in anymore."
After flipping the bird Kerry ended the confrontation with a terse "See ya, Ted" - to which Sampley replied, "See ya, John." _________________ Watch Kerry Implode Because Of Truth!!

Uhhhh...no.
It is because George does not like people saying anything against him and has established "Free Speech Zones" wherever he goes, so that noone with a dissenting opinion can get within a third of a mile of him. Restrict media access to the group and promptly have the local authorities arrest anyone that leaves the designated area.
Here is one of your own right-wing mags slamming him for the abuse - http://www.amconmag.com/12_15_03/feature.html I love the weak save at the end trying to turn it on a liberal.
Kudos to Kerry for allowing people to encounter him, even if they do not agree. Funny how noone else is reporting this. Funny how there are no pictures, just talk. |
Funny how a liar would use a "--" to present a misleading headline.
Funny as in pathetic. |

Too funny, and it misses the point entirely.
Wow, so now we should revere Kerry because he "allows" someone to encounter him? And in on public property, too! Golly gee!
The point isn't whether someone "loves George" - the POINT is that Kerry is a flake - a cannon just ready to go off - his character, which is deplorable, is that he allows himself to be brought to this type of behavior SIMPLY BECAUSE SOMEONE DOES DISAGREE WITH HIM.
That isn't the type of person I'd want running a local ice cream parlor, let alone the greatest country on God's green Earth! |

Oops to kyleparr. Guess I was not clear. I was referring to the title of the thread and the author being the dishonest one.
Sorry about that. |

More intellect from the Kerry hacks.... this is what passes for political discourse in the Kerry camp. Pathetic.
Odd, I'd have thought that Kerry campaign hacks would have some actual messages to get out. I guess this is as good as we could expect from the Kerry folks, then.
And Kerry wants to run my country? No thank you. |

Uh, just try to get close to Kerry and see how fast you are pushed back.
Quote: | Funny how noone else is reporting this. |
Do you really expect the predominantly leftist media to show or spread anything about Kerry that won't hold his up as god or a war hero?
Quote: | Funny how there are no pictures, just talk. |
Even funnier, since it has been stated here that the entire moment was filmed, that no one is showing any films to disprove it either. If on film, running the film in it's entirety would quickly show Sampley to be a liar. |

Kerry's time at The Wall would have been filmed, either by the film crew, or the hundreds of tourists.
But this didn't happen at The Wall.

"Former Green Beret Ted Sampley, who confronted Sen. John Kerry at Washington, D.C.'s Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall on Monday, said today that photographers were in the vicinity and may have captured Kerry "flipping the bird" to him. "
More proof of the liberal media conspiracy!
Actually, folks, Sampley is deranged and insane. He also has a restraining order to stay away from John McCain.
Sampley has accused him of being brainwashed by the Vietnamese and being a KGB Spy. Additionally, McCain has pointed out that Sampley seems to exploit sensitive issues such as the POW/MIA hearings as a means of making money. McCains words were, "Sampley has a nose for publicity and knack for making money from invented controversies."
NewsMax is showing its true colors by giving Sampley the press he hungers for. So are the freeper types who post here when they give him credibility.
Statement of Senator John McCain
"I strongly caution reporters who may be contacted by or are interested in Mr. Ted Sampley and the various organizations he claims to represent, and his opinions on the subject of Senator Kerry, or any subject for that matter, to investigate thoroughly Mr. Sampley's background and history of spreading outrageous slander and other disreputable behavior before inadvertently lending him or his allegations any credibility."
"I am well familiar with Mr. Sampley, and I know him to be one of the most despicable people I have ever had the misfortune to encounter. I consider him a fraud who preys on the hopes of family members of missing servicemen for his own profit. He is dishonorable, an enemy of the truth, and despite his claims, he does not speak for or represent the views of all but a few veterans. The many veterans I know would think it a disgrace to be considered a comrade or supporter of Ted Sampley |

Does anyone know if there was any photographic evidence of this found?? I cannot believe that with all of those cameras around, at least one didn't catch Kerry giving the finger.
Isn't it strange that Kerry's entire visit to the wall was supposedly filmed, yet the Kerry Kamp has not released the video to "disprove" Sampley's claim. Its almost as if they are hiding something ... |

Not strange at all. Even if the bird was NOT flipped. Even if this did not happen at the Memorial. If Kerry was confronted by ANY veteran and pronounced a traitor, his campaign would NOT want it to be made public. Neither would mainline news be likely to report it. His image must be maintained. _________________ "If he believes his 1971 indictment of his country and his fellow veterans was true, then he couldn't possibly be proud of his Vietnam service." |
