SANTA FE

"Senate bills 240 and 461, sponsored by Michael S. Sanchez and Lidio G. Rainaldi, both lift the automatic restriction against having felons sitting in judgment against their fellow citizens.

Bill 240 expands the number of citizens available to perform jury duty to include everyone who files a personal income tax return. This bill also updates the way the state selects jury members by allowing administrators to make random selections from computerized databases instead of physically drawing "jury lot slips" from locked containers when choosing potential jurors.

When introduced, the bill did not specifically include convicted felons in the jury pool. However, because all residents who pay income tax would now be included in the databases, felons who have filed an income tax return would automatically be listed."

~snip~
"Some legislators who approved the two bills have said they did not realize felons had been added to the prospective pool of jurors and have vowed to bring the subject to another vote at the next legislative session in January 2006. Rolling Eyes But for at least the next year, felons will be eligible to join their peers in a jury box."

Don't these people READ the BILLS they are APPROVING????

Hmm, let's see here...

They want to allow them to vote. They want to let them sit on juries.

How 'bout letting them own guns?

Might as well. They'll either vote themselves the right, or they'll acquit any of their buddies caught with one.

Liberalism is a mental disease.
