In March, 2006, Hugh Hewitt's book, "Painting the Map Red: The Fight to Create a Permanent Republican Majority" was published by Regnery Press. I haven't read the book but in the Amazon listing of reviews was one by a Mark J. Broukhoff of Colorado Springs. It contained an insightful listing of things Democrats can be trusted to do, especially under the theoretical administration of Clinton/Obama:

Quote:
Democrats can be trusted to create an America that responds to a military or terrorist attack by swiftly and decisively apologizing to the enemy and seeking to understand the reasons they hate us. Our military, as well as our national security, will become things of the past.

Democrats can be trusted to sell out our sovereignty to appease the "global community", the end result being "The United States of America - a wholly-owned subsidiary of the United Nations".

Democrats can be trusted to keep our borders open to indigent aliens, giving them free health care, education, and myriad other economic assistance at the expense of the American taxpayer who, ironically, is not eligible to enjoy the same benefits.

Democrats can be trusted to nurture and grow a permanent dependent class of people by providing cradle-to-grave economic and social services while simultaneously feeding the recipients the disabling lie that there is no way to "get ahead" or even become self-sufficient. Therefore the only way for them to survive is to keep voting Democrats into power.

Democrats can be trusted to nationalize our health care system, placing a seventh of our economy under direct government control. One need not look further than the first letter of the alphabet to find their top two public health priorities; "Abortion on Demand" and "AIDS Research and Treatment". Other public health needs will need to compete for remaining resources. Get used to the term "rationing" because you'll be hearing it a lot. Also, don't go outside the system to arrange for your own health care... It could land your doctor in jail.

Democrats can be trusted to finance these social programs through confiscatory taxes on middle and upper-income Americans, who are already shouldering 90 percent of the total tax burden. They refer to this practice as "economic justice".

Democrats can be trusted to create an America that values the lives of heinous criminals more than it values the lives of the innocent unborn and the severely disabled.

Democrats can be trusted to create an educational system that produces high school graduates, many of whom cannot read or write their own names. However, they will be able to tell you that Ronald Reagan was responsible for the AIDS epidemic, and that 9/11 would not have happened had George W. Bush not stolen the Florida election.

Democrats can be trusted to create an America in which all citizens are free to practice their chosen religion - as long as it's not Christian.

In summation, I assert that the things we can trust the Democrats to do, if they get back into power, are more ominous than the things we can't trust them to do.

I would add to what Mr. Hewitt says by urging the GOP to clearly define the differences between what it stands for, as opposed to what the Democratic party stands for, given what they've said and done in the recent past. If it can articulate its values well, and then act on them, it will truly be successful in "painting the map red" for many years to come. We can only hope it will happen!

I personally advocate a two party system of government but as long as a minority can gum up the works the way Reid and Pelosi have been doing, a 'redder map' may be the only way.
