Forcing the Major Media to Cover The Swift Vet Story

The way to defeat John Kerry is to tell enough people (voters) what a flawed and dishonest man Kerry is. He is liar, a coward, self-serving, a traitor and betrayer, driven by a corrupting ambition. He is also weak, wishy-washy, dangerously indecisive and comically conceited and pompous. But we must educate and convince enough Americans what he is or he may become President. The way to do that is through the media. Everybody understands all this.

The problem is the major and dominant media is often as corrupt as Kerry. They are his friends and protectors. Talk radio and the internet are helping get the story out but it may not be enough. All of the Swift Vet media spokesmen are outstanding, but not enough people are hearing them - so far. We need the major media and right now their story (excuse) is that the Swift Vets are just “bitter men”, “partisan Republicans”, who “never served with Kerry”, etc.

Meanwhile there are thousands of people who read this forum and there are hundreds of thousands of people who clearly understand the Swift Vet story and more and more each day enthusiastically back them. These people are donating money, posting on this board, calling talk radio shows, telling people. All these people (US!) make up an army (and a Navy!). We have the numbers and power to FORCE (entice) the dominant media to cover the Swift Vet’s story - starting with local TV stations.

We can do that by creating a NEW STORY that the media cannot resist covering. That story would be about thousands of people doing grass-roots protests and demonstrations against Kerry -- exposing his frauds in Vietnam and related facts. There are many, many ways we can hook the media's interest so they must cover such demonstrations and activities. You can do serious demonstrations, you can mock, ridicule, lampoon Kerry. You can do the demonstrations at ALL KINDS of places and venues. You put on a full blown SNL type skit or you can just hold up a sign and a copy of "Unfit for Command" for the TV cameras.

Especially at the local level, TV is a “sucker for action”, for “street theater”, for people with signs at an event, a "happening". They cannot ignore it. TV news people may not grasp your ideas or like your ideas. But action, movement, signs, sound-bites, controversy, people walking around protesting (on a slow news day). They can’t resist. You do that stuff and you get on TV and in the local paper, etc.

Imagine this happening in scores of cities, with local TV stations and newspapers covering the story. It won’t start this big, it will start in only a few or even one city. Maybe yours.

Reading these boards and commenting is not really effective action to defeat John Kerry. Often it is merely satisfying curiosity, speculating, argueing. These forums must become a springboard into action to tell the entire country what we know about John Kerry. What is needed is to bring millions more people to the Swift Vet web site and message, to cause millions of people to read Unfit For Command. In order to really support the core Swift Vet group and help get their message out, we supporters need to “open up a new front” in the effort to force the media (mainly TV) to fairly cover this story.

Making a military analogy: You can’t win a war with strategic bombing alone. You have to have “boots on the ground”, you have to have a presence in the territory you want to subdue. We can’t win this with the people we are reaching so far, no matter how convinving the Swift Vet speakers are. Because not enough people are hearing them yet.

And you may never have a viable citizen movement that the media respects and even fears if all the media ever sees is the same handful of speakers. But if the media sees even a few people doing an anti-Kerry (Swift Vet) protest or demonstration of some kind in a town or they see hundreds of people showing up for an event in a large city, and they see such events happening all over the country.. Now they are going to give the Swift Vets a lot more respect – and coverage.

Why doesn’t the media respect us already? Because we haven’t earned that respect yet. But we can. Who is ready to do something; who has ideas? Let’s hear them.

Some ideas that I have are to do events that ridicule Kerry. Whenever you have someone who is a pompous pretender they are very vulnerable to ridicule. See the thread on the geedunk forum called “COLLEGE CAMPUS PROTEST” for some ideas.
http://www.swiftvets.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=2031
above is College Campus Protest. Read the whole thread and check the linked photos.

We can also do serious protests and pickets at any campaign rally of either party during this election season. I think that the Swift Vet message and supporters should be present every time John Kerry speaks anywhere.

In order to pull this off, we will need to first FIND each other in or local towns. The democrats especially Dean have been very successful in their "meet-ups" There is no reason that we can't use this board to do the same and we have other means to start meeting and organizing locally. We also have the Navy League, Marine Corps League, reserve units, VA hospitals, VFW and Legion halls and other places that can facilitate meeting locally. If you live near me and you want to do something, PM me now.

Again, let's hear your ideas on this.

I just got back from the Reston, Virginia B&N.

I asked for "Unfit for Command". The lady says, "For crying out loud. What is the deal with that book. We only got four copies in and they were gone. We have three dozen on the way, but you are the 15th person who has asked me about that thing this morning."

Just to brighten her day, I mentioned that I maybe I would find something to read that is a little more sensitive (if looks could kill Wink ).

Here's my point....

The market is bigger than the "Gang of 500" or anyone else who is dictating a pro-Kerry media agenda. We are talking about a book that is #1 with a bullet. The big media is owned by big media companies. They only care about $$$$. They don't have a choice. The coverage is going to come.

Regardless, the word is getting out and bypassing the censors in the big media. "Unfit..." is having a major impact on this election because it has taken Kerry off message and is influencing the terms of debate for this entire campaign.

LOL! Same problem here with our B&N - every discredited pro-Kerry, anti-Bush book is right up front.

Just TRY to find American Evita or Reckless Disregard, though. I dare ya! Wink

Can't even bribe these book stores into carrying a blockbuster bestseller with our purchases.

It's really up to us, online, to keep the pressure on the book stores and on the media.

If you want to meet up with other people in your area, seek out organized groups on the web that are set up for the purpose of picketing Kerry appearances and rallies. There are many out there. www.protestwarrior.com is one of them. Check out yahoogroups.com and msn groups. There is a LOT of organizing already going on.

Put up notes with a contact email address on supermarket bulletin boards, club boards, the local freebie newspaper, your web site or blog. Print up informational business cards about organizing a protest on your home computer and distribute them at church, at work, at Tupperware parties. Leave a stack of them near the cashier at a convenience store if you're friendly with the owner.

A crowd of around a hundred showed up behind a Kerry rally a couple of weeks ago chanting "Four more years!" and Kerry thanked Bush for sending the "goons" and his wife declared that what the protesters were asking for was four more years of hell.

The next stop, Kerry had apparently been taken to the woodshed, because his response to the protesters that met him there was a 180. Wink

These little groups are very effective and making a splash. A dozen people with thought-provoking signs can make people think.

Just some musings and ideas.

Dwight:

Here's a thought.

Monday morning, everyone interested in street theatre should go to the windows of the morning news shows. I don't know about other cities but in NY the networks have the studios at ground level and the camera always captures people on the side walks. Bring posters reading:
"Media Let the Swiftvets Speak
Swiftvets.com"

and

"Senator Kerry Release your Records!
W did!
Swiftvets.com"

Or something else (short, to the point, polite and website)

If you have a copy of the book bring it.
Hold the posters/books to the windows and you should be on.

I'll be at Fox News (48th & 6th) Monday between 7:30 and 8:00 on the way to work. Those at home can let us know if they saw the posters/books. If there is any one in NY (or you have friends and family visiting Twisted Evil from out of state) who can make it Sunday morning the Fox crew usually do their sidewalk thing and the signs will definitely make it on air. NBC is at 49th across from the ice rink at Rock Center. I don't know where ABC is located. If they chase you away, I'm sure the NY Post and other like papers would love to here your story!! Let the favorable newspaper know that you will be back the next day. They might have a photographer lurking.

B & N on 5th Ave., NY had a stack of books on the inquiry desk on August 15th. One way to get prominent display is to take a couple of copies and put them on top of that fairy tale "Tour of Duty" or other leftist rubbish or replace the trash in one of the upright bookholders with "Unfit to Command" (I did this Wed.) the clerks don't straighten out the selves till the end of the day.

By the way, I bought the book at lunchtime on Wed. and gave it to a liberal friend on Thursday (what a read). I told him to read the book before he every mentions that haughty French looking senator, who by the way, served in Cambodia? to me again!

There have got to be reporters who are going through it now. So I expect next week the S**t is really going to hit the fan in a number of columns.

I'm workin on some letters to Gen. Franks, Senator McCain and Tim Russet which I will share with you later.

YES! I have been waiting for this to start happening!

Also - meet him at airports when he arrives on his campaign trail -- he usually likes to have a group of his veteran supporters there for a camera shot (I'm suspicious that he arranges this...) and the media is always attentive when he arrives anywhere. Even one person holding a sign (as above) would get the attention of a camera shot/or print pic.

Hopeful,

I cannot believe what an awesome idea that is.

Everyday on Fox and Friends you can see people on the street talking on their cellphones to see if their friends can see them. Imagine holding a sign big enough to clearly see that read: KERRY RELEASE FORM 180.

Many who do not know would inquire what Form 180 was. Then that would lead them to hearing that he was hiding information that might substantiate that he has been dishonest about Vietnam.

Anyway great idea and thanks for actually doing it. I will definitely be looking tomorrow morning.

A bumper sticker should read: KERRY RELEASE FORM 180!

Apply the SBVT logo and web site under it.

I just came back from checking out the Borders at Pentagon City, Arlington, VA. Didn't see anything of "the" book, but for every pro-Bush/anti-Kerry book I saw, I saw about 12 anti-Bush, anti-GOP books. Biased???? Naaaaaah....... Then again, I am in northern VA, part of the liberal metro DC area, otherwise known as being in the jaws of the lion, oh, I mean, of the jackass.... Also got a humorous reaction asking for it. At least it wasn't hostile. But, no one knew if or when they would get it...

But, we do have a lot of work to do here to get the word out. I preach our gospel best one-on-one, and at worst, will get someone to at least take a look, no matter what the issue. Many people are just plain ignorant (I don't mean that in an insulting way - they JUST DON'T KNOW!), but if you appeal to a sense of intellectual honesty, and they know that you served, then they are more inclined to listen. NO ONE likes to be considered close minded.

Mr Mechanical great idea.

Moderators and Admins., what do you think?

A bumper sticker. I would buy one for each vehicle. I'd slap one on my surfboard.

If anyone's keeping track, I live in NE Ohio and would be willing to hold a big-ass sign anywhere Kerry shows up here. I'm sure he will, both candidates are comin to OH often.

Also, send me an email or private message if you are also from NE Ohio and would join me. Unless we end up using something like Meetup, I'd be happy to keep a list of NE OH swiftie supporters.

I'll check out protest warrior as well, and see if I can contact our local group.

LOL Very Happy That's about 1/2 mile from my house. I'll have to go over there and do the same thing tonight!

I'll also have to be sure to pick up an extra copy and drop it by the Reston library. They only have 1 (one) copy available for all of Fairfax County! Yet they somehow managed to get 113 copies of Clinton's My Life in addition to 11 large print versions and 20 audio CD versions. And we're supposed to be a red state?!
