Here's where I got some of the allegations against Ted Sampley:

What is alleged is that Ted Sampley didn't like the stand McCain had taken on establishing diplomatic relations with Vietnam, so he started a rumor that McCain was a brain-washed Manchurian candidate. Then he personally delivered the article he wrote about it to McCain's office and punched out the aide in the hallway. I have also read that Sampley married a woman whose father is MIA, so it's a father-in-law in question, not a father.
Please understand, I don't know Ted Sampley or anything about his group. I don't even know whether to believe the stuff on the above link, and I'm not trying to start a discussion about him, but rather a discussion on getting the message of THIS group out to people. This stuff on Sampley could all be false, but that isn't the point.
When I first saw the Swift Boat ad on Hannity & Colmes I immediately started digging on the internet to find out more about it. I just used a few key words to search on Google and the first thing I got was Vietnam Veterans Against Kerry, Sampley's website. I figured out that it wasn't the group with the ad, but I fear that some people won't get it. They will give up, thinking that Sampley has something to do with THIS group. That's why I'm admonishing everybody to tell people that there's a difference here! |

Hm. Interesting.
Doug knows Sampley's story inside out and he could have just as easily corrected the misinformation as post that the original information was incorrect.
"It's Sampley's wife's father that's MIA." vs. "Sampley doesn't have an MIA father." Six words for either one.

The hit job on McCain/SBVT is a big deal in the Kerry talking points.
The connection is that Sampley's PR person was the same one who put together the original the press conference for SBVT. It is an unfortunate connection because the Kerry campaign is using it to attack SBVT credibility.
It would be nice to get some talking points on this point to counter their arguement here.

What's interesting is that I was in a hurry.
It was Sampley's second (third?) wife, and they are divorced already.
To call him scum would be giving the guy a break.
He has been a McCain hater for years, and has resorted to misrepresentations, lies (although he usually uses others to lie for him, much like Drudge did with me and something I supposedly said to someone), spin and just about anything that will allow him to acheive his goal.
And the pain and suffering that he has needlessly inflicted on the families of POW/MIAs in the process is shameful.
And that's more than six words.

Everything you've said about Sampley is true! So what the hell does that have to do Swiftvets?
Provide documentary evidence of a tie if you can or leave this falacious urban myth alone.

And yet somehow, Sampley has appeared on more than one occasion recently when the talking heads needed a pro-SBVT representative. Were those just cases of the mainstream media contacting the wrong people to appear (perhaps accidentally or more likely, not), or was Sampley specifically sent? Knowing SBVT, I'd tend to believe the former.

Sorry, I still find that interesting, as well as you know Sampley's story.
You also didn't address any of the other points in this thread - that Sampley is NOT affiliated with Swifts, for instance.
A rant about this man's private life was more important than setting the record straight.
As many times as you've insisted on keeping things straight, it's just interesting that you let misperceptions lie - as long as the misperceptions or misstatements suit your purposes.

No, I was really in a hurry. Me being pro-Kerry hasn't a thing to do with it.
Besides, you know that nesgroup, alt.war.vietnam I have mentioned before? (And Bandit did take me up on my offer to come visit). Well, Ted Sampley, and his status as scum of the highest order is probably the one and only thing that group agrees with 100%. And that includes all the anti=Kerry people.
I didn't bring Sampley up. Someone else did. I have never said he has any connection whatsoever with SBVT.
