While I don't think it would be fatal to the SBVT by any means, Polaris is exactly right in large part here. Get out an immediate response. Thurlow actually has responded but most of the media has chosen to ignore it (i.e., he thought his bronze star was for saving the distressed boat and didn't involve active enemy fire, and Kerry likely fed that latter falsity to his superiors). Make sure ithe counterstatement is accurate, and get it faxed to all media.

Then, of course, release the next commercial in all its bloody glory. That will force the Kerry campaign to respond to it. Polaris definitely is right about the need for an immediate--yes swift--response.

And remember, the Washington Post inadvertently opened the door with this irrelevant smear.
