I submitted the following letter to the editor. I could have said more, obviously, but wanted to keep under their 150-word recommendation:
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Given the article's length, why does Mr. Halbfinger fail to mention John Kerry first sought a deferment for study in Paris, then after being denied, enlisted in the Naval Reserves (inactive)?
Why does he cite Kerry "shooting up a sampan, unwittingly killing a child on board", but not Kerry's after-action report listing only enemy VC?
Why does he cite the Winter Soldier Investigation without disclosing that many "veterans" there were discredited as non-veterans, liars and even imposters?
And why does he falsely state Mr. Kerry "quit the group" VVAW in late 1971, when Kerry gave speeches well into 1972 as "national spokesman" for VVAW?
These are matters of record. The article is interesting and not wholly unbalanced, but these omissions/errors shouldn't meet editorial standards. _________________ -- Bill in Seattle |
