I have a confession to make. I was there in Cambodia with Kerry. Even though I was 2 1/2 years old it is something that is SEARED....SEARED in me!!!!!!!!! There we were fighting the precursor's of the Khmer rouge with our Buddhist South Vietnamese allies that were drunk celebrating Christmas. And we could hear Santa Buddha coming on his oxen yelling HO...HO Ho Chi Mihn...... Hey it could happen. How do you know you were not in the boat... I got a hat and some medals to prove it!! oh wait I threw the medals away...Oh wait it was only the ribbons

I typed that story at the DU before I was banned Laughing

You have an error on the dates. "March 12 1968" probably ought to be February 12 1969, right?

Instigator,

typo in title. Should be Christmas, not Chirstmas.

and in the bold paragraph, "scrapping" should be "scraping"

I think you need to change "bazooka" to an M-79 Grenade Launcher. A bazooka isn't on the TO&E of a Swift boat (I'm not even sure if they carried LAAW rockets). And Kerry was thoroughly checked out on the M-79, having wounded himself at least once using it as a close-range weapon, much to his chagrin.

Besides, a 3.5 inch bazooka weighs about 20 pounds, unloaded. What with a 20 pound M-60 in his other hand, he'd need a third hand to do any grenade adjusting.

Just trying to help with the continuity.

We know that Kerry was the OINC of PCF-44 until 29 January 69 when he took over PCF-94.

I thought LT Peck was OIC of the -94 on the 29th of January. Wasn't that when LT Peck got hit, along with Alston?

I was there. I was only 7 years old, but already a Navy SEAL (I was precocious). I'll never forget that night taking fire from Khmer Rouge, because like Kerry "it was the turning point in my life", and my disgust with President Reagan for getting us into that damned dirty war only grew.

Cipher: Did you miss my humour? look at it again - I tried to cover all the bases on this one statement.

No, I was just suggesting the M-79 as an ironic counterpoint. Sort of recursive humor, linking the "searing" memory of the first time he used one back in December of 68 and catching a splinter. Rose thorn or no, that *had* to hurt some. And really hot from the explosion, no doubt. Good "searing" memories.

Besides, a bazooka is a crew-served weapon.

And I wouldn't pick on you, chief, except that you're a chief. It's a genetic imperative for a Marine.

About that date -- you still have the year wrong.

Chief,

I haven't excessively analysed this or anything (I'm not enough of an expert on Vietnam or the precise military terminology), but your theory sounds interesting and plausible to me.

Thanks for your efforts!
