Gene Thorson in 1969 was awarded 1 Purple Heart and 1 Navy Commendation Medal Award (c.f. http://www2.swiftvets.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=1346)
Does anyone know what Gene Thorson got his Purple Heart for? Was it for the same incident as Kerry's 2nd Purple Heart?? |

Hmmm...don't know...but a web page titled
"Veterans for Kerry Leadership Team" dated 26 Aug 2003
lists Gene Thorson but there's nothing in his medals earned
section:
http://www.gwu.edu/~action/2004/kerry/kerriavets0803.html
another post (abt 1/4 page down) states:
"...Short, Thorson, Belodeau, Medeiros, and Sandusky
all received medals recommended by Kerry for the action
on 28 Feb 69."

They were both supposedly wounded in action on 20 Feb, fighting 3 men in black pajamas. They were fired upon by the left bank and a "B-40" rocket exploded close aboard and wounded Kerry in the left thigh and Thorson in the right arm. |
I'm not sure if this is what NavyChief is hinting at...
According to Kerry's after-action report, Thorson was injured "in the right arm" by the same "B-40" rocket. Kerry got a Purple Heart for it, so I would assume that Thorson would have got one too... and if not, why not? |
