A subtle fact not being emphasized is that Burkett was in the ARMY National Guard, not in the Air National Guard. How did he get his hands on Bush's records in the first place? He claims he saw them in a trash can -- what was HE doing there? -- but common practice would have been to burn or shred them, not throw them in a trash can accessible to anyone. Does not pass the smell test.

What? I didn't hear this before? Shocked That isn't a minor detail. Where did he say he saw those papers?

Well, even thought Blather has now sorta said sorry, this isn't over. Yes he must resign and he must apologize to Our President and averyone else hurt by this. CTW

Here is a great quote from a poster over at a certain underground howling moonbat site:

Quote:
Karl Rove owns Dan Rather...

CBS is just a pawn of this corrupt administration. I'd bet that CBS did this to intentionally hurt Kerry's campaign. The worked with the White House and Karl Rove to discredit the Kerry campaign by preemptively bringing up *'s AWOL status. I bet that the Kerry campaign has the real memos, and CBS found out about them, so they rushed the "fake" memos story. That way, if the Kerry campaign brought out the real documents, they can be deemed fakes as well. The Repugs would say, "Oh, so you finally found a 1970's typewriter on which to fake the memos. Good job. Should have thought of that the first time."

f'ing b*startds.

Dateline 9-20-04

Today CBS admitted the Texas Air National Guard documents in question are, in fact, forgeries. When asked why it took 12 days to find out what it took bloggers 2 hours, an un-named CBS source admitted that "we had to check out every living person in the known universe to see if they had any knowledge of them. We did, in fact, find three people would vouch for them, but they turned out to be Michael Moore, the Easter Bunny and Tinkerbelle."

Michael Moore is a well known fabricator and the other two are, well, fabrications.

"That really clinched it for us." said the un-named source

"Burkett, a retired National Guard lieutenant colonel, also admits that he deliberately misled the CBS News producer working on the report, giving her a false account of the documents' origins to protect a promise of confidentiality to the actual source," network spokeswoman Kelli Edwards said in the statement.
(source: FoxNews)
..........

The problem here is that SeeBSNews seems to think that the right to protecting one's journalist sources also extends to Mr. Burkett - when in fact, Mr. Burkett, since he obviously knew the documents were false, has indicated that he KNOWINGLY falsified a government document, and he should be hauled into court and made to testify WHO created these documents.

Anyone want to bet me that it WASN'T someone at the DNC????

Yeah, where is it? This whole statement by him was just another, "I, we, was/were poor victims...oh, yeah, no doubt about it, we made a mistake."

Deliberate acts are not mistakes.

Straight from the horse's orifice:

"Lt. Col. Bill Burkett completed 28 years of decorated service and was medically retired from the US Army National Guard in 1998 after suffering meningoencephalitis on return from an assignment in Panama. From 1995 until his illness, Burkett served as State Plans Officer for the Texas Army National Guard and Governor George W. Bush. "

***THE FOLLOWING WAS VERIFIED by CBS Crack(head) News Staff*** Rolling Eyes

"After refusing to follow direct orders involving falsifying readiness reports, Burkett sought "whistleblower" status for reports involving anti-Semitic activity; personnel fraud; readiness fraud and the alteration of the personal military file of Governor George W. Bush. HUH? Freudian slip, or an admission of what has now been traced back to him?

Lt. Col. Burkett is currently the plaintiff in his appeal to the US Supreme Court in the case of Burkett v. Goodwin, Taliaferro, Meador, et al, in regard to the retaliation against him following breaking the Bush records issue. Lt. Col Burkett served as a War Plans Officer during Operation Desert Storm and functioned as a senior trainer in conducting simulations exercises for deploying troops."

...from a column written by him at the following website. Keep in mind he suffered two nervous breakdowns, has called GW Bush "Hitler", and is now the "unimpeachable source" of the forged Killian memos.

Loose Cannon Wild Bill Burkett writes for the "VETERANS FOR PEACE", "Veterans Working Together for Peace & Justice Through Non-violence. Wage Peace!"

What is of significance, and no one seems to be addressing, is that the CONTEXT of the documents is damning, in and of itself.

Those forgeries were not done by someone with any significant military experience. Burkett, even if he *is* flaky, was an LTC in the guard, and KNOWS how a military document is formatted.

This was a CIVILIAN operation, start to finish. And a poorly run one at that.

That CBS does not employ (or contract) someone -- ANYONE -- with enough military experience to say "these are DEFINITELY not military documents" is stunning.

And telling.

This is a DNC run operation. Dirty tricks with no talent.

This is as significant as Watergate. And MUCH worse. This isn't simply a breakin to some DNC headquarters to steal some papers, this is the deliberate and wanton attempt to unseat the President of the United States using forged and allegedly official documents.

If the shoe were on the other foot, there would be impeachment proceedings in process.

Why is no one interested in impeaching the good Senator, who was the ONLY one that stood to GAIN from this attempt to unseat the President?

Where is the outrage?

They are setting Burkett up to be the "James Dean" in this skit. He is being set up as the "whistle blower", albeit unwilling.

But he wasn't acting alone. Where is the "G. Gordon Liddy" that did the deed?

Rather was the facilitator, the mouthpiece.

But the planners... in Watergate, it was CREEP. Here, it's got to be one of the shadow PACs. I have a feeling which one, but proving it is going to be difficult. And totally unnecessary.

What is certain is that the ONLY one to gain from this was Kerry. No one else. Just Kerry.

Follow the money.

In most responsible organizations, the person who conducted himself as Rather did, is suspended with pay until the investigation is complete.

Sorry, I'm thinking of responsible organizations.

Never mind!

Kerry might have benefitted it it had worked and if anyone cared anymore, but keep in mind that the true winner is Hillary Clinton '08. I have a feeling they had a big hand in this, they knew it would explode in everyone's face, they got to drag up Bush's Air Guard service to tar him some more and whip up their base, and since they really don't want Hillary running against an incumbent Kerry, ....

...don't forget who is now on the inside of the Kerry campaign. Trojan horse, anyone?
