9-19 Longing for the old Democratic Party to return

I am old enough to remember 30 years ago when Republicans were almost nonexistent in Texas and there were two kinds of Democrats, liberals and conservatives. I'm sure my parents voted Democrat most of the time, and I know my in-laws did and still do. My mother-in-law is the quintessential "yellow dog Democrat." Touchy subject.

Today, in Johnson County, there is only one Democrat holding public office. Several of our elected officials are former Democrats. A liberal Texas Democrat of 30 years ago would not even be allowed in the doors of the 2004 Democratic National Convention. He would be an outcast in his own party. Ask Zell Miller.

How did it get this way? When did the party of FDR, JFK and Harry Truman pack up and leave Texas? How did the measure of whether or not you were a Democrat come down to the single "litmus test" of where you stood on abortion? How did Democrats in this country come to hate our president so much that they let the likes of Michael Moore take over their party? In time of war, does political power mean more to Democrats than having a civil election process that airs honest differences without degenerating into the mud-slinging slime fest that this election has become?

Ladies and gentlemen, I'm not going to pull any punches here. We are 45 days from electing our president for the next four years. This has become the nastiest election in my memory. It is so nasty that we can't hear about the issues that confront us. However, it didn't become that way overnight. It's been going on for a long time and I'm going to lay it squarely at the feet of the Democratic Party. Here's why.

Ted Kennedy says the Iraq War "was made up in Texas" for political gain. House minority leader Nancy Pelosi calls the president "an incompetent leader" with " no judgment" who "has on his shoulders the deaths of many more troops."

Introducing Kerry, Baltimore Mayor Martin O'Malley says the Bush administration worries him more than al-Qaida does. Howard Dean advanced the theory that President Bush had advance knowledge of the 9/11 attacks. Former Vice President Al Gore screams that President Bush "betrayed this country." Gore also calls the military's prison system "Bush's gulag." Kerry's national security advisor Rand Beers says the president under funds homeland security became the most targeted areas are in Democratic states. And Democratic Party chairman Terry McAuliffe says the president was AWOL from the National Guard.

On a more direct candidate-to-candidate basis, Kerry attacks President Bush's National Guard service three times in one interview. He said the president "can't even answer whether or not he showed up for duty in the National Guard;" "can't even show or prove that he showed up for duty in the National Guard;" and "has yet to explain to America whether or not, and tell the truth, about whether he showed up for duty." Kerry also accuses President Bush of placing a "target" on the backs of U.S. troops.

In addition to the yelps and squeals of the baying jackals in politics, wealthy Democrats have given millions to so-called 527 organizations for advertising. They have spent $70 million running ads denigrating Bush in one fashion or another, up to and including comparing him to Adolph Hitler.

Kerry never got around to denouncing that particular ad. Multi-billionaire George Soros has pledged his entire fortune to ensure that Bush is defeated. Michael Moore, the new mouthpiece for the Democratic Party, says the president "deserted" from the National Guard. Kerry calls a group of "celebrities" the "heart and soul" of America after they call President Bush a "cheap thug who sacrifices our young."

Underneath it all is the steady drumbeat of liar, liar, liar. Bush is a liar! He's lying! The president is lying. Proof isn't necessary but the beat goes on. Liar, liar, liar. Bush is a liar. The feeling by Democrats is that, if they say it enough, people will eventually begin to believe it. Sadly, for those not paying attention, this tactic works.

On the Republican side, the rhetoric has been muted. Have they gone after Kerry? You bet they have. The record of the president and the voting record of a senator are and should be fair game. They've attacked Kerry's voting record in the Senate. Each time they do, Kerry squeals that they are attacking his patriotism and reminds us all that he's a Vietnam veteran.

They attack his plans for the future when they can find out what they are. No one in the Republican campaign effort has attacked Kerry's military service, called him a traitor or attacked his patriotism.

One lone anti-Kerry 527, the Swiftboat Veterans for Truth, has attacked Kerry's military service, his anti-war activities and their effects on Vietnam veterans and POWs. He had made his Vietnam service the centerpiece of his campaign instead of his 20 years in the Senate.

With less than a million dollars in advertising, they hit Kerry where he lived and turned his campaign on its ear. Kerry's response was not to meet them head on. Instead, we hear the same old drumbeat of liars, liars, liars. The Swiftees are liars. No rebuttal or proof. Just the drumbeat. Liars, liars, liars.

Now Kerry and his advisors have decided that they can only catch up in the polls if they go negative. So, they're going to stop playing nice. I can only imagine what that means.

Yes, I long for the old Democratic Party. I long for the party that did not believe that profane "celebrities" are the "heart and soul" of America; the one that believed in supporting their president in time of war.

If you consider yourself a Democrat and don't like being abandoned by your party and believe it's time to put America first instead of political power, I urge you to let your voice be heard.

Let's not get too nostalgic about the old Donk party, especially not in Texas. I remember too - it's always been the dirtiest, moral-free Party.
Johnson and Wright always come to mind.

Nice pitch to moderates and conservative democrats.

But it was that old democratic party that planted the seeds and fostered a culture that led to the ascendency of the "progressive" liberals and new democrats who harbor an antipathy for America's traditions and historical roots. Just like the new democrats are planting the seeds for an even more secular, international, multiculural populace.

Some working Joe is going to vote for Kerry this year because he bought into liberal propaganda about Republicans being for the powerful, while its people like Kerry who let people into power that would work behind the scene to change our culture by redefining marriage, selling out American soveriegnty, taking God out of the pledge of allegiance, encouraging bi-lingual education, etc.... Then twenty years from now, when those seeds have taken root and radicalized our culture, that guy too will wonder what happened to the culture he grew up in and he too will lament the 'old democratic party' - the one that supposedly looked out for guys like him and consequently eviscerated his country and culture.

No I dont lament the 'old democratic party' It was that party that allowed guys like Kerry to be a serious contender for the most important job in the world and the Commander in Chief of the US Armed Forces.

I was a registered (conservative) Democrat for many years until I realized that the Democratic party had been hijacked by the radical left. Now, I will no longer vote for a party that so blatantly discriminates against white males, pits one group against another, and views everybody as groups and group rights. I also used to believe the old BS that the rich don't pay their fair share of taxes. Then I woke up when I found myself in that upper tax bracket. Half of the pople in this country pay NO taxes at all and most of those vote people Democrat. The Democratic party has been reduced to a party of racebaiters (Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, James KKK Byrd, and the rest of the separatist Congressional Black Caucus). The have morphed into a party that can no longer hold onto power unless they buy votes with freebies like racial preferences and entitlement programs (paid for by somebody else, namely the higher achievers, of course). It will be a long time before I vote Democrat again. When they embrace the phylosophy of "personal responsibility" and abandon the "victimhood" mentality, then I will think about it.

Hey guys. Small community here. Do you want my house fire bombed?

Have to use a little tact here to make sure those conservative and moderate Democrats keep voting Republican. Very Happy

Democrats are Socialists without the honesty. Democrats do not realize that they were defeated in the 94 Republican revolution. Unfortunately, some of the best, i.e., moderates, were removed, leaving the very dregs of the party in charge. As Socialists, they find solidarity with the Soviet Socialists, Baath Socialists and National Socialists. They need to realize they lost those wars. When Ted Kennedy, Nancy Pelosi, George Soros, Barbara Streisand, and Mrs Heinz-Kerry send into the government their fortune and live like they want the rest of us to live, without their privilege, then, I will believe them. The Democrats have morphed into Bolsheviks. They should rename themselves the Bolshevik Party USA and end the deception.

I never used to vote a "straight ticket"....after the Al Gore attempt to get my vote thrown out (I voted absentee ballot due to my hubby still being active duty) I will know always vote republican. I am a moderate republican - being female there are a lot of issues I disagree with the republican party - But I can not abide the way that the democrats only scream free speech for those who agree with them.

I change my party affilation a couple of years ago, only for the sole purpose of being able to vote so I can have a say of who will be on the ticket. While I may not agree with President Bush on a lot of the issues - the one most single issue I do agree on and think is the most important issue of all this election - Terrorist. We must take them out, hunt them down and destroy them before they destroy our world as we know it...and they will if given a chance and I am not going to give Kerry the chance to have a say. I do not see Kerry with any backbone...President Bush I do. Maybe I am a right wing nut.

I left off voting Democrat over before I even realized how infiltrated the party was by socialism and radicalism. I didn't need to see the "secret plans" before it dawned on me that the party line they were using to get there was a bit of a crock.
When I was more naive, I used to buy the notion that only the Democrats cared about the poor and the Republicans were just greedy rich guys who would do anything to hold on to their money and acquire more.

Maybe it was seeing how children behave when you indulge their every need and shelter them from consequences that finally made me realize that what masquerades as compassion and sensitivity can often be unloving, and even cruel. In other words, the more you hand out, the less it's appreciated and the more it's expected. The less you punish bad behavior, the more of it you get. The more you condescend to people by not expecting them to be able to live up to high standards, the more harm you do them.
Conservative compassion begins with understanding that being soft and avoiding uncomfortable confrontation is not kind. It's cowardly. Telling someone that they would be better off improving their morals or their work ethic or the disciplining of their children takes true compassion. It takes caring more about bringing some actual improvement in the other person's life than about whether you'll be savagely attacked for it.

Moving the war on terror to Iraq was a stroke of genius. In Iraq we can make use of our strength of firepower and maneuver in a way that is not possible in the mountains of Afghanistan and Pakistan. The idea of aircraft carrier Iraq as a permanent base of operations for the war on terror, makes sense, in that we did not really have a base from which to work within the friends we have in the region. Iraq is centrally located and as newly developed friend more likely to permit certain operations.

As for WMD, it was a convenient pretense to remove Sadam Hussein, since, there were already UN resolutions abounding. Looking out in 2002, after, having gone through an anthrax attack that left several people dead and buildings closed and commerce disrupted, where would you look for a source of anthrax, if you were a low tech terrorist organization. If you could get people to handle anthrax with a spoon without regard to their health. What could you do with a gallon of anthrax, who would miss a gallon, two. Secret it in the lapel of jacket or chadors. Fly to airports around the US and release it. What would the damage be? Maybe you don't have relations with Iraq, but, you have a common enemy. Buddy may I borrow a cup of anthrax. Maybe, if Kerry had attended a few more intelligence committee meetings or had learned the lesson of VietNam of an enemy willing to use low tech, expendable personnel, to do damage, he might be able to see this. One of the complaints of the 9/11 commission was a lack of imagination, if I can think of this, who else is?

This is the only statement with which I take issue.

You don't base decisions regarding national security upon intelligence which you may have, someday.

You base defensive decisions upon what you know TODAY, to be true.

Everything extant at the time pointed to Iraq not only having WMD, but Hussein's readiness to use them.

"Convenient pretense" does not wash.

Where oh where has the Democratic Party of America gone?

I have never really studied Communism in my 37 years on this earth, but considering what I have found in just 1 hr of Googling I am saddened to find that the Democratic Party has not only been hi-jacked but has been infiltrated with socialist which is really just a politically correct word for Communists as far as I can tell.

If I am wrong or misinformed please let me know I'll sure sleep better at night knowing that Communists aren't actively trying to take over my country by nominating for a presidential bid a man that I consider a Communist or at the very least a Communist sympathizer (all the same to me right now).

Frederick Engels
The Principles of Communism http://www.marxists.org/archive/marx/works/1847/11/prin-com.htm
25th principle 2nd paragraph
In America, where a democratic constitution has already been established, the communists must make the common cause with the party which will turn this constitution against the bourgeoisie(Middle Class) and use it in the interests of the proletariat (the lowest social or economic class of a community) -- that is, with the agrarian National Reformers.

America's Red Army http://209.157.64.200/focus/f-news/1204573/posts
As radicals from across the country descend upon New York City this week in their malicious attempt to violently disrupt the Republican National Convention, it appears the perfect time to dissect the affiliations and leadership of one of the most influential anti-Bush “peace” groups to emerge since 9/11: Win Without War.

Comprised of 42 environmental, feminist, religious and human rights groups that claim to be united in promoting peaceful solutions for international problems, Win Without War first burst onto the political scene in December 2002, at an international press conference featuring leftist actor Mike Farrell. Although the organization was initiated with a letter signed by over 100 celebrities calling for an end to America's “imperialist” wars, with the help of David Fenton, the founder of the public relations firm, Fenton Communications, and the rabidly anti-Bush Internet outfit, Moveon.org, the campaign was presented as a non-partisan patchwork of American life. But while Fenton may want Americans to see Win Without War as being “middle of the road,” the sum of its parts paints a vastly different picture.
“[Fenton] began his ‘journalism’ career as a photographer and media specialist for the Liberation News Service, which was named in admiration of and loyalty to the National Liberation Front of South Vietnam. The anti-American, Communist movement Fenton and his colleagues emulated called for the ‘overthrow [of] the camouflaged colonial regime of the American imperialists and the dictatorial power of Ngo Dinh Diem, servant of the Americans, and [to] institute a government of national democratic union [in Vietnam].’”
Fenton was also a member of the White Panther Party (a Caucasian-led offshoot of the Black Panthers), and even did photography work for the Weathermen, the Communist/anarchist group which bombed the U.S. Capitol building, along with other prominent U.S. institutions in Washington, DC and New York City.

At Win Without War, Fenton has gathered together many of his oldest friends and clients. The assembled cast of characters has a long history of pushing the far left's political agenda through Democratic Party activism backed by millions of dollars from wealthy philanthropic clients.

here is another excerpt

In addition to progressive non-profits associated with Win Without War, Fenton Communications flaks for the politically motivated wealthy patrons who fuel their efforts. Fenton has a client list filled with America's richest, most left-leaning philanthropic organizations. They include the David and Lucille Packard Foundation, the Ford Foundation, The Blue Moon Fund (formerly the W. Alton Jones Foundation), The Heinz Foundation and George Soros's Open Society Institute. Fenton Communications undoubtedly crafted Win Without War with its left wing clients, like Soros and Heinz-Kerry, in mind. Through non-profit coalition members, John Kerry-supporting billionaires are free to dole out taxpayer subsidized millions to oust the Bush administration without spending limits and scrutiny from the Federal Election Commission.

Is this what we are up against?
Are we really in a fight with communists in our own country?

There is a difference between Socialists and Communists. Their goal is the same, the only difference is how they propose to reach it.

Socialists rely on persuasion, propaganda, and political parties to get elected into power. Europe is a good example.

Communists feel that approach is a waste of time. It is far faster to lie about everything you stand for, organize a "Revolution" and just shoot your way into power. Or they just invade their neighbors. This was the case for every Communist nation that has ever existed - all of their governments were installed by force without exception.

Thank you Hammer 2

Aren't the infiltraters of the Democratic party using persuasion, propaganda, and political parties to get elected into power as well as to lie about everything they stand for and are currently organizing a "Revolution"?

I don't believe the left has been influltrated by socialists or communista to any extensive degree (at least not since McCarthy's purge), but the key phrase is Lenin's USEFUL IDIOTS. He and his cohorts long realized that liberals were "useful idiots" for their cause and that term has stuck becuse its true - Democrats- the Unwitting dupes in a high level culture war.
