Thanks for the great find Navy. By far the best commentary I've read on Lucas lifes work.

Hmmm. Interesting that this writer should compare Darth Vader with Adam Smith.
The equation: The evil Darth Vader=Adam Smith=Selfishness???

Darth Vader's Family Values

Wherever you are, Adam Smith, call your agent. Darth Vader is stealing your best stuff.

The new installment of "Star Wars" has set off the usual dreary red-blue squabble, with liberals using the film to attack Republicans, and some conservatives calling for a boycott. But - and I know this is hard to believe for a movie with characters named General Grievous and Count Dooku - there's actually a serious bipartisan lesson about the dark side of politics.

If you can sit through the endless light-saber duels and robotic dialogue, you finally see what turned Anakin Skywalker into Darth Vader....

Anakin promptly recognizes the limits of altruism, just as Adam Smith did in the 18th century.

Adam Smith wrote The Wealth of Nations in 1776, when Britain was intent on colonizing the world (the sun never sets on the British Empire), and when our forefathers had just won our freedom from British rule.

Smith introduced the revolutionary concept of Capitalism--pure competition, division of labor,
a laissez-faire free-market economy which has made our country the leader of the free world.

THAT'S SELFISHNESS??? A competitive system that provides JOBS for its citizens to grow and PROSPER.

The Leftists see capitalism as the Dark Side, better we should all be slaves
to the benevolence of our rulers!!
