I, too, have a problem with hearing mostly liberals bringing up the 200B we have/will spend in Iraq (I think some of that includes Afghanistan) - sure we could use the money here for our shcools..... but when in the past has adding millions of dollars to our system caused a noticable positive change in the schools ? Not in my lifetime yet..... the same with other things.... and they are mostly 'things'.... I live in a beat up old trailer.... but I have 4 walls and 2 doors... and a place to sleep at night.... keep my dogs.... enough food to eat.... (I'm on disability), I can't go shopping or travel etc.... but I couldn't anyway because of my health.... but when I think of those Iraqi moms and dads having their kids taken from them... or having to do Saddams horrible biddings or have their kids taken or raped...or their wives raped.... or their tongues cut out or half their families shot and dumped in a mass grave.... living with hardly any electricity (it'll get better) or clean water etc...healthcare... they are doing without things we call 'basics' on a regular basis and worrying about being killed! I don't understand why people here don't understand we're AT WAR!!!! tighten the belt buckles.... (we could use that - even me) our kids have schools with running water and bathrooms.... they did not.... they're food and medicines were old and outdated - while Saddam / France/ Russia scammed billions ! Hey, if we don't help them.... someday we'll answer to God for why we didn't.... why we were so selfish and materialistic !

I do believe that this president has poured more $ into education than any of the others. Didn't our ancestors have a one room school house to learn in. What a bunch of whiners, they can just suck it up, we are at war. It's all a smoke screen to control the peasants, as the ketchup lady would say.

As has been mentioned, Rush made this very point on his show today.
If every American voted the way they live their lives, the true
conservative candidate would win every presidental election in a
landslide. That is how Bill Clinton won two elections - he successfully
masqueraded as a conservative Democrat.

I have a personal example of the truth of this statement. One of my
good friends is what we call in the south a dyed-in-the-wool "yellow dog
Democrat". She and her husband (now a prominent lawyer in town)
were hippies in the late sixties and seventies. She loved Bill Clinton,
still loves John Edwards, and would never even consider voting for
GWB. Yet, in the way she lives her life and the way she raised her
two adult children, she is quite conservative.

As Rush would say, Ronald Regan won two national elections in a
landslide by being exactly who he was - a true conservative. If
President Bush had been a little more fiscally conservative and
had opposed McCain-Finegold and other questionable legislation,
he would also win in a landslide and would have taken away the
only legitimate argument the left can use to criticize his actions.
Bush will win because on many conservative principles he has been
unwavering - a strong national defense, cutting taxes, and moral
clarity on cultural issues like abortion, gay marriage, and stem
cell research.

I will admit that I am very conservative and I LOVE George Bush.
If need be, I would stand in line for hours to cast my vote for him.
I do not hate the person of John Kerry, although I hate the actions
he took during and after Vietnam and I do not agree with any of his
positions (whatever they are). Yet, I would not be nearly as
motivated to stand in line to vote against him. That is the difference.
The only way John Kerry has a chance to win this election is through
voter fraud and the courts. It is up to all of us to make sure that
does not happen!!

This is something behavioral scientists call "polarized perceptions". Two people, or two groups of people, can experience the same reality and come up with diametrically opposed perceptions. They then begin the process of evidence filtering until the position they hold is polarized and deeply ingrained.

This is an important field of study because the problem causes divorces, wars, and everything in between.

You have hit a very real problem that is imbedded in human nature.

This is so true. Most people already have more than enough. There are lots of people who will never get their manufacturing jobs back, but that is not Bush's fault. Everyone I know still enjoys everything they have ever enjoyed. No one has really had to sacrifice like people had to during WWII. Restaurants around here are filled every night with a 1 to 2 hour wait on weekends. The malls are filled with shoppers. It's hard to tell that people are suffering financially. I know there are those who do have problems with their jobs gone.
But, this is war time. I guess the liberals don't see this as war. Heck, a lot of them say this is a hoax anyway, like sKerry saying it's a nuisance.
What is really scaring me is that my own state of Ohio may be the deciding factor on who becomes president. It's split down the middle right now. So many people lost their jobs in this state, myself included.
But, I would never believe sKerry will bring these jobs back. But, I think a lot of Ohioans are believing this man. I'm an IT specialist and so many of jobs in my industry have been shipped over seas. That I believe goes back to NAPTHA which was passed during the Clinton admin.
Right now, I can't afford anything, but that's life. Sometimes we just have to reign in on the budget and get by. I have not been able to get a job in my field. It's been 3 years now. We have 500 people applying for one IT job when there is an opening.
Well, I'm digressing. The 87 billion is a mere pittance that we spent on WWII from what I've read. I'd rather see the Iraqis become free of murderous, torturous regime. That's what our country has been about, helping others to become free. What would these same people have said back when we helped Japan rebuild. That took 7 years.
This is a society of instant everything. If it can't be done yesterday it's a "quagmire". I get so mad hearing these things. These same people that say Iraqi is a disaster said the same about Afghanistan and they just held their first democratic elections last weekend. What a success, but does the press make much of this. No. A historic happening, a monumental success.
