Offensive speech is different from obscene or pornographic speech. Stern is in poor taste. He offends. But I am willing to die in order to protect his right to be wrong and offensive.
There are many people out there who view the speech of Rush, Sean and anyone who has any faith as being offensive, politically incorrect speech that we should find a way to restrict and limit.
That is a battle that is coming. I'm fighting for Stern now, so I am not a hypocrite when the battle for free speech for bloggers, conservative radio talkers and people of faith is joined.
What the conservative Stern censors are doing is setting up a situation where they are fighting to censor the speech they hate without considering the consequenses for the freedoms and the speech they love.
As a father, I know I can't control my kids 24/7, but I am responsible for raising kids with good judgement, ethics and integrity. If I'm doing my job well (and I don't all the time -- I don't think any of us do), I don't have to worry about my kids being exposed to Stern.
Conservatives who are true to their principals will fear Powell and Capps no matter how disgusted they are by Stern. _________________ Whose side is John Kerry really on? Take this quiz and decide for yourself.

Howard Stern attracts for the same reason people gawk at auto accidents. People want to be shocked - even when they know they may be either sickened or offended. _________________ "War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things: the decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks nothing worth a war, is worse."

You know, ccr, you are right.
If you don't like Stern, don't watch him. (Or listen to him, since he is off TV.) I think he is a chicken necked geek, and always have.
I agree with Hondo wrt his audience.
I don't want either end of the political mullah spectrum running this country, I don't know about you guys.
But I also don't want to ever have to see Janet Jackson's b00bs when I am trying to watch the super bowl, either.
