Everyone who served on the Ticonderoga post WWII lived in the shadows of great men such as your Uncle.

Excuse me folks, but the WWII USS Ticonderoga CV14 was an Essex
class aircraft carrier not a destroyer. The USS Ticonderoga CG17 is
(was) the first of the Ticonderoga class aegis cruisers which is correct.
It used to be that you could tell what a ship was by it's name alone,

to mind.[/quote]

Just talked to my father and your right, I had the ships mixed up. He served on ships in the Enterprise battlegroup, one being the Galveston and I couldn't understand the other ships name.

You sure that you haven't been overdosing on "Gundam Seed" at
midnight on Friday nights on the Cartoon Network? Or maybe "Big O"
or "Transformers"? OK. So I've got 8 grandkids waiting for their
grandpa to dose them up on extremely violent Japanese anime. (They're
cute, they're sexy, They're homicidal maniacs) Gotta fill in the void
left by turning off the MSM somewhere. Very Happy

Tatoos: Used to was Disneyland wouldn't let you in with one. Today in Japan the ban continues at all public facilities. The grandeous body art of the Yakusa carefully ends at the cuff and collar. In the PI a tattoo signifies jail time.

Ship Nomenclature has changed and blurred overtime:

Famous ships and battles were CVs but now are CGs.

States were BBs but became Boomers.

Cities used to be Cruisers became Attack subs and oilers/auxiliers which used to be rivers and mountains.

Indian tribes showed up as fleet tugs and such.

Presidents (and the occasional Appropriation Committee member) are CVs.

The Japanese colorfully name their destroyers as Wind in the Trees or Snow on the Mountain. The Brits named a few for insects (for amusement we called our can the Goki Buti or Eppys). For the US destroyers have always been named for heros. I'm all for a petition for a USS John Oneill!

Opps. Hold up there a sec. I'm all for a USS John O'Neill, but in the
future. A LONG time in the future. The only tincan named for a LIVING
person that I can recall is the USS Arleigh Burke.

Very Happy

I recommend a bridge repair ship, since Teddy likes to break their guard rails.
