First, MSNBC may just be a lost cause. I believe they have made network policy on this. These people do not mind having Buchannon on as their token right wing guy because he is pretty extreme and no one takes him too seriously.
I cannot otherwise explain why this entire network seems to be so oblivious to the facts and has been calling this story discredited before they remembered to call it a lie.
The "journalistic standards" thing was said before (last night?) by Olyphant I think. It's a clever word choice because they don't have to defend it. They just have to shrug it off. It is also intended to make the person who might be leaning towards the SWBFT feel dumb for even considering it. "Other people smarter than you don't think this even comes close to their high standards of authenticity".
(The joke, of course, is the "journalistic standards" of The New York Times "web of connections" article. The was one whole lot of nothing.)
While it is very frustrating to watch someone either refuse to open their eyes or just plain lie like O'Donnell has, we have to have faith that the truth counts for something. I'm not sure what I would do if I didn't believe that.
These people are out-right lying to defend Kerry. There is something to this, and I think it is important. They are out-right lying.
I find it a lot less frustrating when I just recognize that these people consider defeating Bush far more important than legitimate integrity (they will rationalize a plenty that they're defending the truth) and more important than having an opportunistic narcissist who will undoubtedly see the US and the US military as his personal entitlement.
(This is shortly after he climbs off the cross the SBVFT apparently nailed him to with a "fear and smear" campaign)
Remember, the networks feel it is their job to defeat Bush. Kerry was counting on them to not publicize this story. When they could no longer do that he is counting on them to put it away.
You will not see more evidence than the last three weeks to prove that the MSM is determined to defeat Bush.
Truth carries.
I do think we're getting of message slightly, though.
