Psst.....with no disrespect intended, it's not as bad as you think....there are many of us under 40 who identify more with the World War II generation than those in the "Baby Boom". We're somewhat cynical at times and not very trusting of our elders, but we understand very well the values up which this nation was founded (despite the misinformation) and often live up to them. In fact...many of us our laying it on the line each and every day from Mosul to Kabul..... Wink

Point taken Tony! I should said "most" instead of "anyone! Wink I also said, "had be misinformed". I didn't say they all the bought the crap they were being fed. Military Academy Grads are excluded, prima facia.

Couple points:

Pacifists do fight. Hinduism is the original pacifist ideology. Yet our greatest work is devoted to the problem of a pacifist who must kill. The word pacifist more accurately describes our greatest wartime generals and the majority of our soldiers who understood why they fought than it does Phd candidate.

A better word for her is liberal humanist. THey seek to view humans as nothing but this ephemeral metaphysical good-intentioned thing instead of what we are: enlightened animals. THey think that acts in the physical, like violence, are beneath humanity. But then again, last time I checked, my body was as much a part of my humanity as my mind was. Physical acts are necessary in a physical world.

What Phd candidate suffers from is the delusion that we are totally unrelated to the essentially self-interested nature of the animal. WE are NOT one big global family. We are NOT going to gather for a group hug in the interest of togetherness, enlightenment, and self-actualization.

We are self-interested parties, some of us form groups in order to further our own interests better. THe united states, and our founding fathers, were the greatest of these groups that has ever existed. Our founding fathers understood the concept of honorable and self-interested camaraderie. She, however, does not.

I fear her (my) generation will never learn this fact. But maybe we can convince her of it nonetheless.

p.s. Phd candidate, for a therapist, you don't understand human nature too well. Your name itself is a reflection of your intellectual elitism. I've been to a couple good schools and am headed to another one in the fall. YEt did I call myself Ivy League Graduate, or Cambridge Bound? NO. There's a reason for that. See if you can figure it out

disclaimer: that above statement wasn't meant as an insult but a sort of gateway to understand the sense of personal responsibility and achievement that a libertarian/conservative person uses to judge him/herself and others.

No that is what you do.

See quote in context From Brainbridge Washington 4th of July post.

PHDC also implied on that board that we lack the ability to engage in honest debate. What kind of debate is it when you do not answer questions from previous boards but go ahead and start a new one? I call it spew & run.
