And you can bet it will be faithfully trancribed for the Al Jazeera readers. |
I'm sure you were equally outraged by Tom DeLay during the Boznia/Kosovo conflict.

The international respect and trust for America has diminished every time we casually let the bombs fly. I personally have no problem with debate and opposition, especially on the floor of Congress where it belongs. Where I get upset is the emotional, half-screaming attacks that are less about public debate and more about trying to attack a man's honor with no proof, even to the extent of accusing the President for deceiving the American public while having had the same position on things like WMD's themselves; or saying he knew about 9/11 and let it happen just so he could pick a fight with Iraq. This goes beyond being disingenuous, this is totally irresponsible; we should expect much more from our leaders and should let them know that we will not tolerate lies and innuendo as a substitue for intelligent, factual debate.
Then, when the debate is carried offshore by folks who we have elected as our leaders, or even when the "debate" takes the form of sound bites spoken here but clearly communicated in sound-bite terms that can be used by our enemies to bolster their positions, then we have moved beyond healthy debate and into the realm of endangering our troops.
To me, that's the difference.

So your outrage is reserved for any one other than a Republican making statements like that. |
Take it easy , Mike. You know better than to try to put words in my mouth.
That was a gentle reminder to our friends on the left that believe in "internationalism" that THEIR outrage is selective.
What was in our national interest about Kosovo? Where was /is the UN?
Do we still have forces there? How long will they be there? What is the plan for disengagement? |
Still dodging the question Carpro. WE had soldiers in the field when these statements were made, were you outraged? |
Don't need to dodge the question. Why would anyone be outraged at Delay's remarks when we had no troops on the ground in Kosovo at that time? _________________ "If he believes his 1971 indictment of his country and his fellow veterans was true, then he couldn't possibly be proud of his Vietnam service." |
