In an editorial today (28th) about media reporting, the CSM writer included the following:

"The Swift Boat Veterans for Truth come forth and make allegations with little proof and still find their arguments being aired on television."

I believe if 1,000 people send coherent arguments against this opinion, they might even retract the statement.

How about if we formulate a point by point debunking of the John Kerry myth.

Perhaps one has already been written.

We should keep it here with a sticky so that we can cut and paste it to email it to those who require an education.

It would need to provide references to Kerry's book with page numbers for those to lazy to do the research on their own.

This is the exact email I just sent (facts taken from rbshirely's post in this main forum, 'purple heart hunter')

"The Swift Boat Veterans for Truth come forth and make allegations with little proof and still find their arguments being aired on television."

Swiftvets have little proof???? How's this? (see below) Seems this research you could have done yourself! What kind of journalism is that?

The following presents the text of the few documents needed to make a
valid determination that John Kerry did indeed obtain his Purple Hearts
using less than truthful statements.

First Purple Heart

Citation Excerpt
Quote:
February 28, 1969
On Behalf of the Chief of Naval Personnel, the Commander U. S. Naval
Support Activity, Saigon hereby awards you the Purple Heart for injuries
received on 2 December 1968[

In an August 28, 2004 National Review article Admiral William Schachte stated:

Quote:
I heard the distinctive sound of the M-79 being fired and turned to see
Lt. (jg) Kerry holding the M-79 from which he had just launched a round.
We received no return fire of any kind nor were there any muzzle flashes
from the beach. I directed the outboard motor operator to clear the area.

In a July 21, 2004 Affidavit, Kerry’s CO, Grant W. Hibbard, stated:

Quote:
In December 1968, Kerry came to my office in order to apply for a Purple
Heart. He had a tiny scratch ?? less than from a rose thorn. I had already
spoken to Lieutenant Wiliam Schachte USN (now Rear Admiral USN retired)
and others who were present during the incident and had reported that
Kerry had fired an M-79 too close, inflicting a tiny wound upon himself.
I turned dwon the Purple Heart request. I was shocked to later learn that
he subsequently received an undeserved Putple Heart for this wound.

Quote:
Tuesday, August 24, 2004
KERRY CAMPAIGN BACKTRACKS ON FIRST PURPLE HEART AWARD
Washington -— In a reversal of their staunch defense of John Kerry's military
service record, Kerry campaign officials were quoted by Fox News saying that
it was indeed possible that John Kerry's first Purple Heart commendation was
the result of an, unintentional, self-inflicted wound.

Second Purple Heart

Citation Excerpt
Quote:
March 5, 1969
On behalf of the Chief of Naval Personnel, the Commander U. S. Naval
Support Activity, Saigon hereby awards you a Gold Star in lieu of a second
Purple Heart for injuries received on 20 February 1969

From “John F Kerry: The Complete Biography by the Boston Globe Reporters
Who Know Him Best” by Kranish, Mooney and Easton, 2004

Quote:
He was treated on an offshore ship and returned to duty hours later

From a Ft Smith Times Record Article on September 13, 2004

Quote:
Two days later, he {Fred Short sic} heard a grenade explosion behind him
and saw his skipper, Lt. Kerry, on the deck with a bloody leg. He’d been hit.

From “Unfit for Command” by John O’Neill and Jerome Corsi 2004 page 78

Quote:
Van Odell, a sailor on PCF 93, recounts that when Kerry's crew came back
that day, he heard them say that Kerry had faked a Purple Heart from his
own M-79 wound. In addition, one of Kerry's crewmen, in a 2002 email
that he disowned after meeting Kerry, questioned this Purple Heart
and indicated that it was for a negligently self-inflicted M-79 grenade round
like the one occuring at Cam Ranh Bay

In a Sunday March 17, 2002 email, Fred Short wrote:
Quote:
I had advised him that the rain would set it off when it armed. He did, it did
and we both got a face full of wire. He got a heart for it, I said no way.

Third Purple Heart

Citation Excerpt:
Quote:
April 17, 1969
In accordance with the authority delegated by reference (a), the Commander,
U. S. Naval Support Activity, Saigon takes pride in presenting to you a Gold
Star in lieu of a third Purple Heart for injuries received on 13 March 1969

From “John F Kerry: The Complete Biography by the Boston Globe Reporters
Who Know Him Best” by Kranish, Mooney and Easton, 2004

Quote:
At one point, Kerry and Rassmann threw grenades into a huge rice cache
that had been captured from the Vietcong and was thus slated for destruction.
After Tossing the grenades, the two dove for cover. Rassmann escaped the
ensuing explosion of rice, but Kerry was not so lucky – thousands of grains
stuck to him. The result was hilarious and the two men formed a bond.

There is adequate evidence that Kerry falsified his Purple Heart Awards

My letter to the Christian Science Monitor:

Quote:
Dear Mr. Chinni,

In your article, "Press 'fairness' in politics: Just relativism disguised?" you write the following:

"But the campaign relativism game extends well beyond the president to both parties. The Swift Boat Veterans for Truth come forth and make allegations with little proof and still find their arguments being aired on television."

I would be interested in your proof of your allegations. Certainly, Mr. Kerry has offered none, particularly through the most objective and unbiased route open only to him: authorizing the release of his FULL military/medical records by signing DD form 180. He has refused to do so.

I have followed the story of the Swiftboat Veterans for Truth with great interest, and what is most striking is that the only party that was forced to recant their story was Kerry, not the Swiftboat veterans (see "Christmas in Cambodia" and the admission that his first Purple Heart was self inflicted).

If there is any relativism to be seen here, it is seen in the way the Bush Air National Guard story and the claims of the Swiftboat Veterans have been handled by the mainstream media. The Bush story received, and continues to receive frontpage coverage despite full disclosure by Bush through authorization of his full military record. Sadly, in order to make the "facts" fit the story they want to hear, they have unwisely accepted and presented forgeries as facts. This is not the case with the Swiftboat Veterans. Their facts have been checked, and sworn affidavits back their claims. They had been blacked out by the mainstream media for months, then attacked with smears and untruths, but not facts (this is important). The "Big Lie" that is oft repeated yet never validated, is that the Swiftboat Veterans, as you put it, "make allegations with little proof."

My response to you, in light of what I have written above, is to provide the factual proof for your statement. Debunk the claims in "Unfit for Command.

You would be the first.

Many tell me that I am a real "pither!" Wink

You should have been a fly on the wall last Saturday with my discussion on the SBVT with two vets, one WWII (agreed with me) and a Korean War vet (didn't like either, but still popped out the usual MSM bilge stories).

We parted friends (until next week anyway!), but I am sure more than a few in this busy Dunkin' Donuts overheard large swaths of our rather loud discussion!!! LOL!

Telling them the truth and making them think it's hell!! (to quote Harry Truman)

Dear CSM,

Obviously you have not explored the writings of the SwiftVets group. Their writings, ads and press conferences are highly compelling.

You are damaging your own credibility, just as Dan Rather recently damaged his, by your unscientific journalistic malpractice.

Evil or Very Mad This makes me extremely angry and I am taking some time to compose a response to the CSM. I am a Christian Scientist and I am ashamed of that newspaper and so are a lot of other Christian Scientists I know. I haven't subscribed to it or read it in a very long time. Its subscriptions have been falling for years. It has operated in the red for at least 20 years. The church membership is supporting that paper with their donations. It used to be a very fine, well-respected newspaper. It was founded in 1908 by Mary Baker Eddy as a newspaper that would print the TRUTH in response to the yellow journalism of its time. It carried out its mandate to report the news truthfully and responsibly until the early 80s when a new Board of Directors suddenly fired all the old guard, the really good, experienced, HONEST reporters, and put in a lot of kids who don't know beans. It has become nothing but a liberal rag now.

I have personal experience of this newspaper. One of their reporters did a story on my husband's startup a few years ago. It was complete crap the way he reported it. He took my husband's quotes out of context and twisted them into his little narrow liberal viewpoint and essentially mocked what my husband had worked very hard to accomplish (and for which he won a respected technology award, btw).

whew! Thanks for this opportunity for a rant. Eddy would be turning over in her grave if she knew what that paper has become.

Going off now to get a cuppa coffee and write my letter.

ps. to fortdixlover: You are damaging your own credibility, just as Dan Rather recently damaged his, by your unscientific journalistic malpractice. Excellent observation! You may not know it but that is CS 'jargon' and it is exactly what they are doing. They'll GET this.

Just as drill sergeants don't go into long-winded details as to why the recruits need to get their act together, I also tend to be terse, pithy and deadly when it comes to my critique of the Fogosphere (a.k.a. MSM).

You say this:
The Swift Boat Veterans for Truth come forth and make allegations with little proof and still find their arguments being aired on television.

I find it very ironic, considering the point of your article, that you would present this blatant misstatement as undisputed fact.

Fact is that not one significant point in the Swift Boat Vets book, "Unfit For Command", has been debunked. Fact is that there is significant evidence to support all of the claims made and the book is supported with footnote sources, names, dates, places, affidavits and official documents. Fact is that Kerry has admitted to three lies based on "Unfit For Command" calling attention and scrutiny to them.

Fact is that your article repeats an often repeated lie and assumes that it is fact. Irony at it's finest.
It doesn't matter how many times you have heard the Kerry talking heads say the SBVT claims have been proven to be false it is still not true.

Prove me wrong if you can. Point out ONE significant fact in the book that has been proven to be false. That will require that you actually read the book however and you should be warned you might actually become informed in the process.
