I want to tell all how happy and proud I am to be voting for the first time this year. Very Happy B/c of it being my first time, I am following everything. I'm a political junkie.
The reason I have never voted before -no I did not just turn 18 , I'm an adult and remember Vietnam.. I have never voted b/c i was raised in a religion and they forbid u to enter the military or vote.

I am happy to say, I am voting this year and my vote is going for George Bush.
I hope u guys can "tolerate" me, i'm new to the political process, but im catching on quick. Very Happy

Glad that you decided to vote, good for you. Remember to study up on all the other races, even the small ones. Also, they have been putting up with me on these boards and I know nothing about swift boats. I just know they had to serve with a jackass traitor. Good luck. (hint, it can be safer over here in Geedunk).

I am a Christian Clergyman and much of Christianity is anti-war, as it should be. Deciding what constitutes a "just war" is a difficult problem.

Much of the objection to the war on terror is the reluctance of many people to give up their idealistic comittment against war, all war.

There are more evil things than war, and an Islamic dictatorship enforced by terrorism is one of those things.

I am Presbyterian according to my paperwork and personal history. I am a universalist by belief.

Welcome aboard. Boy have you been on a journey! Maybe I should say welcome home?

Sam

Wednesday, as you already know, I'm tickled about this. Seeing some who were oppressed break free and exercise their God given rights makes me proud of any contribution I made along the way.

At one time, I too belonged to the same religion, even if for a very short time. It didn't take me long to see they were oppressing the very ideals I fought for in Vietnam and have always held in high regard.

Be it a religion, socialists, liberals or any other oppressive group, we all need to realize we have freedoms and repsonsibilities and no one should interfere with them. As long as we have people like the SBVT and so many others here standing proud, our freedoms will remain intact.

Lew Very Happy
Yes u have been a big help, patiently explaning things to me. I am grateful to u and Animal. Cool And I am grateful to all the vets who served this country with honor and gave me the rights i now enjoy.
It is true that much of the christian religions are anti-war, but it is not ok to take away a persons right as a citizen of the USA to vote or serve the military if they wish.
It has taken me a long time to realize that i truly believed in what the USA stands for and what our forefathers were trying to do when they came here. I'm not ashamed of my country, I'm proud of it.
So by most poles i'm an unlikely voter. b/c i have never voted before. But I have my registration card and I'm ready to go.
I'm glad I found the SBV, they have a right to be mad Mad and any way I can help them eliminate Kerry, I will.

I am a former conscientious objector.
I was under the influence of the college environment and the early '70s anti-war atmosphere of the time. I thought there was no excuse to justify war.
I was enrolled in Army ROTC the entire time I was in college and had gradually started to lean in the anti-war direction. When I attended my summer training camp in Ft. Riley, Kansas I witnessed the destructive power of modern military weaponry and I became convinced in my beliefs.
I returned to school and went to the head of my ROTC department, declared my contientious objector status, and asked to serve in one of the non-combat corps of the Army. Naturally this confounded many people. My ROTC department and the Army conducted an investigation of me and determined I was sincere. However, the Army decided they didn't need someone like me so they gave me an Honorable discharge for the convienience of the Army.

I am 51 now, and as the years went by I realized what a young fool I had been.
No one likes war, no one would wish it upon anyone, least of all the soldier who has seen it. I have come to realize that there are evil men in this world and that by not opposing their evil, an even greater evil is the result. Just as failure to stop Hitler in his first moves against Czechoslovakia and Austria let to the horrors of World War II. Just as our failure of will in Vietnam led to the boat people and the killing fields of Cambodia.
I have come to realize that true peace can only come when there are no more evil men to cause war. I have also learned that the imperfect nature of human beings causes evil to arise in some men. Therefore, even though we all long to live in peace, we must never forget the dark nature of the human soul and must always be on guard against the rise of new tyrants and their dark philosophies.

Sadly, I look back and regret that I wasted the opportunity I had to serve my country. I am trying in my own small way to offset the stupidity of my youth by helping out here in any way that I can, if nothing else, than by serving as an example to others of what not to do. We only get one life and the choices we regret will always be with us, so live it wisely.

Being a well-know conciencious objecter and anti-war activist during his days at Yale, John FRAUD Kerry has been against war, any war, all war ever since. Therefore, for him to seek the Office of the Presidency is an act of fraud.

Wednesday, thanks for reminding me just how much we are blessed to be able to vote...and live here. The debate on Thursday has had me a little down and I think I needed a reminder of the miracle of our individual right to vote (FOR BUSH!).

Hammer2, (if you happen to look back to this thread) thank you for the convictions of your youth. You did serve your country proudly in your actions in college. It couldn't have been easy to make the decisions you did then... You followed through...and in a way led by example. Just think...if Kerry had, had your backbone (since he was anti-war in college) and legitimately expressed his views instead of going for a political agenda... the world would've been much better off than seeing a "soldier" throw his brothers, his metals, and the POWs away...

'I am 51 now, and as the years went by I realized what a young fool I had been.'

Hammer2, I think there are a lot of us who can make that same statement. But the difference is that we admit it when the realization hits us. The first couple of times I voted, when I went into that booth I had no doubt in my mind that it would be a straight Democrat vote--just one 'X' and I was outta there. Reason? Strong Democrat family--union members, how else would they vote? When Nixon ran, by then I had been out in the big, bad world for a few years and started thinking for myself. Did I want that kind of existence? No--I wanted to make my own decisions, make my own way in life with no devotion owed to anyone for 'procurring' a job for me. The first time I voted Republican, I swear I spent 5 minutes in that voting booth making up my mind. When I finally pulled that Republican lever, I felt somewhat as though I had commited a sacrelige against my family. I have not once regretted my change in party. The younger members of my extended family who have to be union members (automotive tool & die) are all strong conservatives. I think I may have had something to do with their thinking.

Wednesday, welcome to exercising one of the greatest freedoms our country grants. I'll be thinking of you while I work at the polls on election day! Smile

Thank u Bystnder. I feel like the people in Iraq and Afganhanstain,(sp) voting for the very first time. ( unfortuenly i'm hearing madonna now in my head) I love to hear the pres talk about those people, and how excited they are. It is exciting to vote, to be a part of the political process.
a lot of people say all politicans are crooked and why bother to vote? Kerry is the biggest reason I can think of for voting, even if u never have. Could we really elect a communist as pres of this country? I hope I don't ever live to see that. Shocked
