In the "Al Queda reveals its true intentions" thread there are many instances of disputed links to media sources. So who really is more or less liberal? Check out this recent report from the UCLA, Stanford University, and the University of Chicago.

A Measure of Media Bias

....Few studies provide an objective measure of the slant of news, and none has
provided a way to link such a measure to ideological measures of other political actors.
That is, none of the existing measures can say, for example, whether the New York
Times is more liberal than Tom Daschle or whether Fox News is more conservative than
Bill Frist. We provide such a measure. Namely, we compute an ADA score for various
news outlets, including the New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, USA Today, the
Drudge Report, Fox News’ Special Report, and all three networks’ nightly news shows.
Our results show a very significant liberal bias. All of the news outlets except Fox
News’ Special Report received a score to the left of the average member of Congress.
Moreover, by one of our measures all but three of these media outlets (Special Report,
the Drudge Report, and ABC’s World News Tonight) were closer to the average
Democrat in Congress than to the median member of the House of Representatives. One
of our measures found that the Drudge Report is the most centrist of all media outlets in
our sample. Our other measure found that Fox News’ Special Report is the most centrist.
These findings refer strictly to the news stories of the outlets. That is, we omitted
editorials, book reviews, and letters to the editor from our sample....

"There they go again" - Our future veterans deserve an honest media

In 1971, which seems like yesterday to many Vietnam veterans, the Vietnam Veterans Against the War (VVAW) organization produced testimony - given before a Senate hearing that focused on the alleged actions of a few, and with one broad brush implicated 2.5 million members of the military as supporting a free fire zone mentality of death and destruction. The media picked up the story and pounded away at the American psyche with that huge lie day after day after day. The result of this coverage was a much distorted public opinion of the American troops, and as the Vietnam veterans came home they were treated with a spirit of non-approval from not only strangers but former school mates and even members of their own family. America also had several hundred men in captivity that were presented with this same VVAW dogma daily by their captors in an effort to break their spirits.

Fast forward to 2004 - "There they go again" : The media finds a story about uniformed Americans behaving badly and they pound and pound and pound away at it, eroding public opinion. They will stay on this story until there is another story about uniformed Americans behaving badly and then the drum beat will begin to pound away some more. I am not saying these stories should not be covered, but when they cover a story beyond the point of no new information being added and at the expense of the positive things that the American public should be informed about, it is an abuse of the troops in harms way that have kept us out of harms way for over 32 months now.

Questions informed Americans should be able to answer:

1. When was a military and intelligence base established in the heart of the terrorist world?
2. How many corpses were uncovered from mass graves?
3. How many non terrorist Iraqi corpses have been added to the grave yard over the past 12 months?
4. How young were some of the prisoners found in Saddams prison?
5. When was the Iraqi constitution drafted?
6. What percentage of the al-Qaeda’s leadership has been killed or captured?
7. Why haven’t we had another terrorist attack in more then 32 months?

If this was a quiz, how many of these questions could you answer?

Perhaps we would know the answers to these questions if they were being covered by the media - or is the media too busy looking for the next American behaving badly story? For example, how can we put another fresh face on the prison abuse story today?

There is a grass roots movement of veterans who do not want to see this generation of troops abused the same way the Vietnam veterans were. The veteran community is asking the American public to support our troops by completely removing CBS from their life. Veterans are going to utilize the parental control feature on their televisions and put a lock on CBS. This is a very serious issue and we need to send a very strong message and apply punishment that will be felt in every board room of every media outlet across the country. The troops in harms way have given so much to us, so we can carry on with our normal lives in a very hostile world. I think we can go without CBS , at least until they show some respect for the people fighting the War on Terror!

Thank you for listening -

Please feel free to send this to the editor of your local paper

A fascinating piece of evidence of leftist bias in the media.

However, only a blind man needs such evidence. Only a deaf man needs evidence of Al Queda's true intentions. And only a dumb man argues about either.

***Media Research Center CyberAlert Special***

Special Report. "The Liberal Media: Every Poll Shows Journalists Are More Liberal than the American Public -- And the Public Knows It"

Today the MRC posted a new Special Report by Rich Noyes, the MRC's Director of Research, which provides a 17-page rundown of all the polling completed over the past 25 years or so that has documented the liberal views of journalists and how the public recognizes that slant in the reporting they watch and read.

The Executive Summary:

Over the next four months, the media establishment will play a central role in informing the public about the candidates and the issues. As the countdown to Election Day begins, it is important to remember the journalists who will help establish the campaign agenda are not an all-American mix of Democrats, Republicans and independents, but an elite group whose views veer sharply to the left.

Surveys over the past 25 years have consistently found that journalists are more liberal than rest of America. This MRC Special Report summarizes the relevant data on journalist attitudes, as well as polling showing how the American public's recognition of the media's liberal bias has grown over the years:

Journalists Vote for Liberals: Between 1964 and 1992, Republican
won the White House five times compared with three Democratic victories. But if only journalists' ballots were counted, the Democrats would have won every time.

Journalists Say They Are Liberal: Surveys from 1978 to 2004 show
that journalists are far more likely to say they are liberal than conservative, and are far more liberal than the public at large.

Journalists Reject Conservative Positions: None of the surveys
have found that news organizations are populated by independent thinkers who mix liberal and conservative positions. Most journalists offer reflexively liberal answers to practically every question a pollster can imagine.

The Public Recognizes the Bias: Since 1985, the percentage of
Americans who perceive a liberal bias has doubled from 22 percent to 45 percent, nearly half the adult population. Even a plurality of Democrats now say the press is liberal.

For the HTML version put online by the MRC's Mez Djouadi: http://www.mediaresearch.org/specialreports/2004/report063004_p1.asp

Both feature several tables and graphs to illustrate the findings about the views held by journalists.

I believe it was Ted Kopout last night that was kind of mocking the giving of sovernty to the Iraqis. He was clowning in a very biased way because power was passed without him being told. Then he made a comment to the effect of, "Now the Iraqis can shove it in Bush's face when he tries to tell them what to do, the sovernty card". What a piece of crapola. They are trying to undermine the Iraqis as well as our own. Semper Fi.

And as Walter Cronkite would undoubtedly say (if he were honest):

And that's the way it is.

Personally, I prefer the "Cronkite weather report" from Good Morning, Vietnam!

You Are What You Eat

People who watch CNN plan to vote for John Kerry by over 2 to 1. Fans of Fox News lean towards President Bush by just about the same amount. Where you get your news really does depend to some extent on your political beliefs, says pollster Scott Rasmussen. His survey last month of 1,000 adults found that as choices for news coverage expand, audiences are increasingly bunching up along ideological lines.

Those who listen to taxpayer-funded National Public Radio prefer Senator Kerry by a 68% to 27% margin. On the other side of the ideological dial, listeners to Christian radio support President Bush by 71% to 23%. The gap roughly mirrors the division between voters who attend church services regularly and those who don't.

Some outlets do have a more bipartisan viewership. CNBC watchers split evenly when it came to picking a president: 47% for Bush and 47% for Kerry. And as a regular guest on C-SPAN's morning call-in shows, I can testify that it attracts both passionate Democrats and Republicans.

The really interesting thing about this is that a recent UCLA study indicates that FOX is centrist in it's reporting. Tells me a great deal about how far left the left has moved in this country.

Something else:

Loony Left vs. Religious Right? Since when did it become radical to go to church regularly? A country built on Christian principals by it's founders and the Loony Left calls Christians radicals?

Am I missing something here? I'm not personally religious but I've learned enough to know atheism is a founding principal of socialism/communism. Check with Marx and Engels if you don't want to believe me.

'Antiwar' Is Pro-Censorship

The St. Paul Pioneer Press reports on a stadium giveaway by the local baseball club:

The Minnesota Twins will present Duke, "the calm and determined battlefield commander of the G.I. Joe team,'' to the first 5,000 children at Monday night's game against the Kansas City Royals as a way of honoring local military personnel.

In a nod to political correctness, however, "the team asked Duke's maker, Hasbro Inc., to remove the customary gun from his side, bringing him in accordance with the Metrodome's no-gun policy. Hand grenades are still visible."

That isn't enough to satisfy some "antiwar" bed-wetters, who want the doll banned altogether:

"It's not a credible way to honor those who've suffered the inhumanity of war,'' said Phil Steger, executive director of Friends for a Non-Violent World, a St. Paul-based group with about 4,000 members in Minnesota.

"One wonders whether a desire to increase ticket sales is masquerading as good intentions. We hope not. Minnesotans' moral sense and empathy with those who have lost life, limb and loved ones in war--soldier and civilian--rejects this kind of opportunism,'' Steger said.

We hear a lot of unsuppressed complaining about the "suppression of dissent"--but how come guys like Steger apparently have no compunction about calling for the suppression of patriotism?
