Boss Hog writes from Australia:

It's now 8.57 p.m. EST on Saturday October 9 here in East Coast Australia. The Australian federal election took place today. The Prime Minister of Australia, John Howard, a strong supporter of George Bush, was defending his Premiership against huge criticism from the Australian mainstream media and from the Australian Labor Party (the left-wing federal opposition) over his support for the war in Iraq. The polls closed less than 3 hours ago but already it is clear that Prime Minister Howard has not only retained government but has also increased his majority. This is the best possible news for the Coalition of the Willing and, hopefully, a harbinger for George W.'s defence of his Presidency. All of the best from all True Blue Aussies - yippee!
And Niels Kjellerup writes:
The anti American labour leader Mark Latham, who campaign on pulling out Australian troops out of Iraq & the coalition of the willing (are you listening Kerry) has gotten his nose bloodied in the Australian election; not only could his party not gain any seats from the Government, it now seems certain that Prime Minister Howard has increased his coalitions majority from 13 to somewhere between 18-22. What won Howard his fourth term in Government was his steadfast support of the US on war on terror and his Governments handling of the economy.

America listen up -– let FREEDOM RING support your president.

Australian Government Set to Win Election

By Paul Tait
SYDNEY (Reuters) - Australia's conservative government appeared to be headed for a fourth consecutive term after a senior opposition Labor senator admitted it was almost impossible for his center-left party to win Saturday's national election.

With well over a quarter of votes counted two hours after voting booths closed in Australia's most populous eastern states, television commentators agreed it appeared Labor was set for defeat.

"I think at this stage of the evening it's going to be almost impossible for Labor to win this election," Labor Senator Robert Ray told Nine Network television.

Ray later said Labor might lose up to 10 of the 64 seats it holds in the 150-seat national parliament.

Australia's 13 million voters faced a choice between Howard's government, which unreservedly backs the United States and its Iraq war, and Labor, which wants stronger ties with Asia.

Voting is obligatory in Australia, and ballots were cast at more than 7,000 voting stations from the dusty outback to the Antarctic.

Polling booths in the most populous eastern states closed at 6 p.m. (0800 GMT) and election officials expected to have half the votes counted within two-and-a-half hours.

With voting in the west continuing for another two hours, a result was expected to be known late on Saturday. Bookmakers heavily favored Howard over Latham.

The election pits Howard, 65, a master politician seen by voters as bland but safe, against fiery 43-year-old Mark Latham, who has a colorful turn of phrase but is still perceived as a relatively unknown quantity after only 10 months in the job.

A Newspoll in the Australian newspaper earlier on Saturday showed the two sides split 50-50 on a two-party preferred basis, where minor party preferences are distributed to major parties until a winner is declared. An ACNielsen poll in the Sydney Morning Herald had the government ahead 54 percent to 46 percent.

Queues had formed early at one polling station in the Sydney beachside suburb of Clovelly when polls opened under brilliant sunny skies in Australia's biggest city. Continued ...

Aussies have always been a staunch people prepared to stand up for what is right. They have just proven it once again. So much for Kerry's and Juan William's claims of coalition members deserting.

Great to have this news from down under. Australia is probably America's most reliable ally. They have been softened up by a guilt-driven Leftwing media, at least not yet.

And apparently the appeal of Kerry's sister, who went down there to try to demoralize them, telling them that their participation in Iraq was increasing the threat of terrorism, fell on deaf ears.

Why isn't the story about Kerry's sister -- Diana? -- getting more play, and criticism, in the MSM? I'll tell you why, in just two words. Media Bias. No, make that four words: Sinister leftwing media bias.

Australia's Howard Wins Fourth Term; Latham Concedes Defeat

Oct. 9 (Bloomberg) -- Australian Prime Minister John Howard's Liberal-National coalition won a fourth term in office after pledging to extend 13 years of economic growth, keep interest rates low, cut taxes and increase spending. Labor Party leader Mark Latham conceded defeat.

``I spoke to Mr. Howard to congratulate him on his election victory,'' Latham, 43, said in his concession speech to supporters in Sydney. ``I want to thank the many people who voted Labor today.''

Victory by 65-year-old Howard means Australia's 850 troops will stay in Iraq. Latham had promised to bring the soldiers home by Christmas if he won government. Howard, who U.S. President George W. Bush has called ``a man of steel'' has said the troops will stay until the ``job is done.''

Whew....excellent!

No thanks to Kerry's sister. I would like to believe this is a direct repudiation of her and her nonsense. But I'm sure it's just the result of Howard being a strong leader.
