********Correction, left out three names below from the offical list. There is 17 total for '69. Fixed.********

Coastal Div. 11 has NO Records of Kerry earning a Bronze Star for the year 1969.

Here is Div. 11 Bronze Star recipents for 1969:

LTJG ROOD
LTJG DROZ (2ND POSTHUMOUS)
LTJG SALINAS
LTJG GIBSON (2)
LTJG SHUMADINE
LTJG GILBERT
LTJG BILLOWITZ
LNS FRENCH
QM1 SANDUSKY
RDSN BELODEAU
BM2 MEDEIROS
BM2 LANGHOFFER
GMG3 HORNBERGER
BM3 BAUMBERGER
EN2 ERHARDT
GMG2 ALSTON
GMG2 LAMBERSON

Only one Silver Star was awarded for 1969 and you all know who recieved it. Still waiting for more doc's from the navy on that. Interesting enough, Elliot describes in a report the incident in which Kerry earned his SS as an "Uneventful" operation. hmmmmmmm....if it was so "uneventful" how did anyone walk away with a SS in record breaking speed I wonder.....

That list is incomplete.

I have an award recommendation from that unit, from that time frame, for a Bronze Star that has three names, none of which is on your list.

Once again, the Navy's paperwork is screwed up.

Bandit,

I notice Bellodeau, Sandusdy, and Meideros or on the list? Do you have the dates of action for them. Bigger question is who else received awards for Feb SS action, especially on Kerry's boat. Was the action a "medalfest" or maybe "medalgate"?

Negative on the dates, this is FOIA stuff from Naval Historical Center which they do not handle awards documents. The info to answer your question will come from Awards & Special Projects Branch. I suspect these Bronzes was for Feb 28 incident, but will know for sure once the awards branch finishes their search.

Tell you what IS REALLY interesting to ME is the Navy gave me a OPs Chronology for Div. 11 for Jan, Feb and March. What is interesting in going thru this in my mind is the fact there is nothing unusual about the Feb 28 incident in that these guys were performing the same ops previously and killing, capturing and uncovering a lot more goods, yet no one walked away with a SS in these Ops. I'll type out the Div. 11 Ops for Jan and Feb that were nearly identical to Feb 28.

Also, about that Feb 28 incident: was anyone captured?

Bandit, does your data provide any information as to unit assignment dates? One of the unknowns about Kerry's service, due to the missing Page 1 of the Streuli fitrep, is the date of transfer from Coastal 13 back to Coastal 11. AFAIK, it can only be established that the transfer was effected sometime prior to 22 Jan 69, the date of the Zumwault/Abrams meeting with Coastal 11 officers.

No nothing like that. This would be outside the sope of my request really. I could get it for you though. Is there some standard form one could request that would have it?

Two of them are familiar -- Kerry and Thurlow. The other is Lambert.
