An email response from Senator Herb Kohl on Voter Fraud in WI

Dear WEAPONEER:

Thank you for taking the time to contact me. I apologize
for the delay in my response. I value the correspondence I get
from people back home in Wisconsin, and I would like to take this
opportunity to address your concerns.

The 2000 presidential election raised several concerns
about current voting technologies. It showed all Americans that
our voting system needed to be updated and modernized. I share
your concerns regarding the need for a secure and legitimate voting
system in our Country.

Congress took action to remedy this problem by passing
H.R. 3295 and S.565, the Help America Vote Act of 2002
(HAVA). HAVA authorized $3.9 billion over three fiscal years to
help pay for election reforms and to create an Election Assistance
Commission to examine the entire voting process. State and local
authorities must improve voting equipment and technology,
expand the accessibility of polling places, implement new election
administration procedures, and educate voters. HAVA authorized
the necessary funds to assist states in meeting their new obligations
to ensure that every citizen has an opportunity to vote and to have
that vote counted.

As of January 1, 2003, the federal "Help America Vote Act
of 2002" requires any person registering to vote for the first time
and submitting a registration application by mail to provide a copy
of acceptable identification. Acceptable identification is either
current and valid photo identification, or, one of the following: a
copy of a current utility bill, bank statement, government check,
pay check, or government document that shows the name and
address of the voter. In addition, Wisconsin allows registration at
the polls when providing proof of residence at the present location
for 10 days preceding the election.


Thank you for taking the time to contact me on this very
sensitive issue. The right to vote is a fundamental part of our
democracy and should be administered according to current law.

I am going to write to him too. Would you mind sharing your email with me, so I can customize for my own? I'm not very good at writing emails such as this.

Are there any more (besides Feingold) that we should contact? Maybe after the elections -(when Tammy Baldwin gets sent packing) - we should contact our congressmen/women too?

Where would I find all the information about Wisconsin's legislators to send them emails too?

I went to the NRA website where it has write your Senators and congressmen...

I didn't save a copy of what I sent, but it was very short and to the point!

I sent it to everyone I could think of including a few news papers.

I'm sorry, but I see nothing in that reply that excites me, either way. It looks like a canned response, designed to be sent to either Republicans or Democrats who are objecting to charges of potential voter fraud. I don't see anything sincere, or encouraging about it - just official pap.

What am I not seeing that everyone else is seeing?
