Not a swabbie, rather a USAF weenie. One enlistment: '70~'74. "Aerial Combat Documentation Photographer." Fancy name for "They shoot bullets at you, you shoot film back." TDY'd into Th' 'Nam a few times, and PCS'd to Ubon Thailand '73 (601st Photo: Rat Pack). Got to be a contributor documenting the "Last Bombing Mission" in SEA, and a bunch of stuff before that. ;-} Photo credits in "Stars and Stripes," "Airman" mag, etc.
Was discharged at port (Travis AFB) in May '74, the war was "over" for us by then and I ~still~ got pelted with fruit in San Fran airport for bein' fool enuff to go thru in uniform... changed into one'a them Thai taylored suits in a restroom, and went home. I mostly blame Kerry for the opinions those misguided 'children' on the balconies held, and haven't forgotten. There were more serious incidents concerning VietVet status but I've neither time nor patience to elaborate here.
Thank you guys for th' site, and the attempt to disseminate the truth far-and-wide. I'm pushing the site and the book at anyone I think has a brain! |
