As a member of the silent generation, I grew up with newspapers and television news for some fifty years. I learned to read, trust and rely on these media, and they became part of my life. However, there has been more than one occasion during the past few years that I have questioned the motives and the liberal tilt of newspapers, magazines and television.

My distrust and concern for these media has deepened even more during the recent presidential election cycle. I have seen what I perceived to be trusted news anchors manufacture so called “news stories”, and newspaper articles that have been rewritten, repackaged and re-sold to represent current news stories. In addition, several journalists have been charged with plagiarism and out an out fabrication of stories.

One must wonder “WHY” are we being subjected to so much liberal bias. In many cases the liberal media does not even seem to reflect the opinions of their consumers.

Are the dominant liberal journalists, analysts, etc., driven by ideology, journalistic standards, or plain and simple political bias? I have been searching for some sinister underpinning or conspiracy theory such as a communism plot or socialist conspiracy to answer that question.

Fortunately or unfortunately as the case may be, I couldn’t look further for those sinister theories tonight because my computer system crashed and I could not access the internet for quite awhile. However, I might have unwittingly stumbled upon some answers when as an act of desperation , I turned on a Public Broadcasting Television Station.

Lo and behold, PBS was airing “American Experience: What Brought on the American Depression.” pbs.org

The American Experience was a documentary of the Stock Market Crash of 1929. It told of the Ticker Tape Operators who had control of the incoming financial information on the stocks. It also spoke of the willing financial writers of the major newspapers, i.e., New York Times, The New York Herald Tribune and The World, who upon a substantial payment from the brokers would hype up the stock to enable profits to the brokers. The result of course, was that the small shareholders and real folks of that time were the big losers in all this manipulation. They were the tailors, secretaries, bookkeepers, etc., who lost everything of value during the crash whenever expectations were not met.

As a result of viewing this documentary, I found that perhaps my conspiracy theories of the Main Stream Media might be re-directed and simplified by replacing them with baser motivations such as GREED and AVARICE.

Perhaps we are seeing a familiar scenario such as we did in the Stock Market Crash wherein the Pollster or Analyst has replaced the Ticker Tape Operator. Similarly, the Financial Writer has been replaced by the Political Writer and it becomes a mission to hype and sell a liberal candidate (product) that has no real basis and no real value.

Will this election come crashing down on us as the Stock Market did in 1929? Have the investors put their money into a sort of Main Stream Media Ponzi Scheme where there is no real value or base to support their candidate (product) and yet they must sell it to the public in order secure their profits. .

As an aside, I am also reminded of the Payola scandals of the 1950’s and 1960’s wherein the Disc Jockey’s and radio stations received substantial sums for the promotion of certain records whether they were good or not.

Obviously there has been a phenomenal amount of money spent in this election for Advertisers, Graphics Designers, Pollsters, Analysts, etc., etc., and so on.
The investors have not spent their money out of the goodness of their heart or simple ideology. They are clearly motivated after spending millions of dollars and expect a return on their investment.

We have watched money flow into the 527 organizations, election law loopholes, political organizations and the marketplace. Is it not too far-fetched, based upon history, that money can also be flowing and seeping into the mainstream media? Yep, there will be howls of protest at the very suggestion of Payolas. Shocked Somehow, this theory seems much more manageable than any of the other conspiracies I have thought of.

This is a great article on the Depression:

I strongly recommend that you download the pdf file, because it is much easier to read. Also, I highly recommend visiting this site regularly even if you don't live in Michigan. It has information that is applicable to anyone in the country.

Ondry, Im thinking the same thing nowdays, but I watched a pbs thing last week called choices in 04. I really thought it would be centerline but far from it, it was filled with kerry friends explaining every thing kerry does. It had moma t. in it (thats when I got mad), all good fluff for kerry.
They left out kerrys honeymoon meetings with the enemy, they left out many-many things.
It made one thing clear to me, pbs should stay out of politics with my tax moneyand Im sure kerry would love this to be aired daily. Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad

Blue,

After today's conversations about the missing and/or non missing Weapons of Mass Destruction, I am further convinced of my theory.

The players have been the same throughout the election. I think we just have to follow the money.

Clearly, the Oil for Food scandal was a rude awakening for many of us. Who would of thought that these holier than thou diplomats would be involved in such a scheme just a few years age.

Typically, the MSM will go through it's Binge, Purge and Navel Gazing retrospectives after recent media events. Did we spend too much time? Were we fair? What can we learn? Blah, blah, blah, But these retrospectives are always after the fact and after the damage has been done.

I like my new theory much better!
