The fact that John Fn Kerry came SO close to the US Presidency - and while polls have not yet closed, the trend seems unmistakably now to President Bush - shows a divide in this country between those who see what is simply real, and those who have bought the lie. The latter believe the alphab 'news', the pop entertainers (many of them), the sitcoms and dramas, the films and newspapers, the magazines and books, their schoolteachers and public bureacrats, that almost unanimously, with one voice, speak of Vietnam atrocities and a military bent on bloody tyranny and callous indifference to friend and foe, alike.

Kerry was, rather (no pun intended), the atrocious candidate. He was a singularly unlikeable, teacherous and offensive anybody-but-Bush. Joe Lieberman would have been the far superior candidate. So, too, even Gebhardt.

Because of the Swifties. Kerry was shown in this campaign cycle for the clown that he truly was precisely because of the Swifties reasonable complaints, soundly presented. The Bush campaign, like those of his father, and his own in 2000, was not well run. They attacked the Swiftie's complaint and angered their own base in doing so, perhaps not just to mollify McCain but because Bush is just that disconnected. Bush wins despite himself. He did nothing to reveal Kerry as potentially dangerous should Kerry have become CinC. But due to John O'Neill, Van Odell, Steve Gardner, Tom Wright, and the rest who took to the airwaves, to Hoffman and the whole organization, and frankly this very website as well, Kerry never rose above his status as a generic ABB. Dick Morris, often wrong but occasionally correct, in the past days suggests Kerry was off message for his leftist Dem base because he was on the defensive in light of the complaints which owed to his constant reference, in his various campaigns, to his supposed Vietnam-era heroism, particularly juxtaposed with his treasonous behavior in the years immediately following. I think that's right.

So thank you Swifties, and POWs, for the Truth. You showed that John Kerry really was and is Unfit for Command. People read of his exploits and cons, in the day. People had a chance to revisit his language in the early 70s that is echoed almost word for word today when he speaks of Iraq - or as he spoke of the start of the Iraq war under the first President Bush. Whether Kerry, or Kennedy, are re-elected in MA is up to those voters to decide. But we've been spared being ruled by a 'euro-approved' monster.

Sevry,

Beautifully stated. If Bush does in fact win, he owes a great debt of gratitude to the Swift boat vets and POW's who came to the rescue of his poorly run campaign and his own mistakes (first debate, etc.) even as he expressed disdain for all 527's as though here was some sort of moral equivalency between MoveOn.org and the Swift boat vets.

To Ogre, your picture of the Wall with that statement "Vote for those that Can't" says if all. Our votes for Bush will be their Absentee vote.
