I'm a Vet and nobody ever polled me! In looking through all of the military sites (e.g. Swiftvets.com, military.com, and others) it looks like 70% to 85% of our veterans and their families support our current Commander-In-Chief.

I don't know who CBS polled.

I don't, considering the source is CBS...but let's see what other reputable polls might chime in with.

Purely anecdotal, but I have a brother who's a "moderate" to "liberal" Democrat & has voted Demo most of his life. He's also a veteran (pre-Vietnam) and voted twice for Clinton.

However, in this election, he's already nixed any possibility of voting for Kerry, and "fraud" is, quite often, a word he uses synonymous with "Kerry" in our conversations. Amazingly enough, since we have generally avoided political conversation due to our respective politics, it appears that he arrived at his anti-Kerry feelings with no help from me.

Needless to say, since we appear to have achieved some consensus at last, I'm taking FULL advantage of our newly discovered common interest Smile

If vets are voting for FJK it's because they don't know the facts. At www.wintersoldier.com with some 62,000 votes only 4% say they would vote for Kerry.

Wasn't it just this past weekend that reports of CBS's poll showing vets overwhelminly support Bush was reported?

Maybe this can put it a bit of perspective, even though it pre-dates this story;

Perhaps we should all flood Gallup with emails for a second opinion.

I was receiving emails from Kerry supporters. Some how they thought I was one of them when I intercepted directives to go to the www.loveourtroops.us poll. That’s when I made the “To your battle station post”. Notice how the poll showed Kerry ahead at first post and it only took us a couple of hours to catch up and now that poll is almost 3 to 1 Bush.

If you include French and German veterans, I'm sure this poll is accurate.

http://www.rasmussenreports.com/Veterans%20Vote.htm
RasmussenReports.com

Thursday August 05, 2004--A Rasmussen Reports survey shows that military veterans prefer George W. Bush over John Kerry by a 58% to 35% margin. Those with no military service favor Kerry by ten percentage points, 51% to 41%.

The potential grassroots impact of the war issue is highlighted by the fact that 48% of Americans say they know someone who is currently serving in Iraq or Afghanistan. Among these voters, Bush currently has a ten-point advantage in the poll. Fifty-four percent (54%) of veterans know someone serving in these war zones.

When it comes to perceptions of the situation in Afghanistan and Iraq, it is likely that information from family and friends has a bigger impact than news coverage.

Overall, 47% of voters believe that Bush would make a better Commander-in-Chief than John Kerry. Forty-five percent (45%) take the opposite view and say Kerry would do a better job. This closely reflects the overall voter preference in the race for the White House (on the nights of this survey, Kerry attracted 48% of the total vote to 45% for Bush).

Veterans prefer Bush as Commander-in-Chief by a 60% to 33% margin. Fifty-four percent (54%) of veterans give the President good or excellent ratings for handling the situation in Iraq. Overall, just 43% of voters give the President such positive ratings on Iraq.
