Republicans have many, all Governors. Tom Ridge - VN Vet and former Governor of PA, Robt Taft-Ohio, George Voinovich - Mayor of Cleveland, Gov of Ohio, US Senator, and as well Jeb Bush. GOP has lots of talent. We could add Tommy Franks as well as a quailty Commander. Forget those who are Senators only, especially McCain.

I'll buy ya'll dinner if Governor Scharzenneger isn't already their behind the scenes republican nominee for 2008.
It will be addressed in the congress this next year to change the constitution ( 22nd amendment) to allow immigrants with 25 yrs of citizenship under their belt to be able to run for president. There is alot of support for this on both sides of the isle and I think it will pass. If it all goes well the Governor will run and I bet hugely he will be our next POTUS.
I have worked for him and can personally attest to his fortitude, sincerity
and great ability to get things done. By the way, he is not quite as *liberal* as some may think. Though he is also not a prude shall we say....but ultra liberal, uh-uh, no way. He's one tough cookie I can tell ya that! He'll get my vote:)

P.S.
I'm a Californian ( Marin County), but believe me when I say NOT ALL Californian's are loony leftist even if Nancy Pelosi would like everyone to think so. Need to get rid of her next......LOL

Pro-aborts and Taxers won't fly in GOP. Ridge and Guiliani are pro-aborts, Taft is a Taxer, he won't be re-elected in Ohio, I hope he steps down rather than lose the governorship. Taft is the reason Ohio lost so many jobs, not GWB. Voinovich would be a good choice, he took Cleveland from bankruptcy, he a proponent of school vouchers, an ex-governor and pro-lifer. Jeb is also very interesting, I had read during the 2000 campaign that the Bush family expected Jeb to run for President, not George. And it would drive the leftist crazy. Arnie of California is out because of the constitutional requirements, besides being a pro-abort. Need someone who can speak from the heart, if they happened to be orator, all the better. What other governors do we have. What does anyone know of the female governor from Hawaii. I saw an interview of her and she had a great TV presents. The hit against Senators, or at least the long term ones, is that they are not managers. Bob Dole would have been a good POTUS, but probably a bad administrator of the government.

Whoever the 2008 candidate is, he or she will be running against Hillary, who has set herself up as a moderate, in spirit only tho. She's on the Arms Services Cmte and has yet to vote down anything of consequence. She’ll probably vote for the ban of Partial Birth abortion, tho NARAL will give her a wink.

Of greater import is to ensure GWB doesn’t enter a Gingrich zone. What I mean is that when the GOP rolled into control of the House and Senate in 1994, Gingrich thought Americans voted for massive changes. But Americans voted against Clinton changes. And so they then voted in Clinton to a 2nd term to mitigate Gingrich. I’m no fan of Clinton, but eventually Gingrich, Lott and Hassert learned that they can pass legislation and get Clinton to sign it into law if the polls forced Clinton into signing it into law. Welfare Reform is the best example, there is no way a GOP President would sign Welfare Reform.
The above is IMHO.

It'll take more than convictions. Ya gotta have some charisma! Tom Ridge comes across as too whimpy; whether he is or not. Arnold has great delivery; but a couple of bad positions. A mixture between Zell Miller's (a democrat!) delivery and Sean Hannity's convictions would meet the criteria. Idea Idea

Just keep your eyes on who the administration will be grooming over the next four years. It will become obvious over time.

Being from Ohio, I agree that Taft has his handprints all over our financial and occupational problems. He is a tax and spend republican. George Voinovich on the other hand along with Mike Dewine are honorable, capable, and effective senators.

Arnold, well I like him, and have an "Arnold Says: No Girlie Men" decal on the back of my truck... but our founding fathers had a wisdom that deserves to be listened to.

If GW has a successful 4 years, and brings the Iraq campaign to a successful conclusion, and if Florida did well over the next 4 years ... Jeb would be a viable candidate...

We need to prepositon for a centrist Hilliary candidacy... but we have about 18 to 24 months to develop and pretest our next "leadership team"...

You are so right. Consider, Hillary is no Centrist and the Clintons are not as popular as MSM would like you to believe. The Red Queen is a far left Socialist and has no Executive qualities. Senators are not good administrators and she has only limited elected resume. It's all hype. Seasoned Candidates are generally Governors and/or Mayors (Fast Eddy Rendell excepted). My list did not mean I approve, they are examples. Democrats have some good ones, but they ignore them in favor of the ruling Arkansas Mafia.

They will have a hard time selling Jeb... too many fear a dynasty - that was used against the President.... He also has some family problems

He does seem a good man and a good governor....

Governors and mayers of big cities have the administrative skills. They usually are vulnerable on foreign policy.....

Senators don't get elected.

Is condy rice out of the question? I think she would be fantastic and she has quite a good chance of receiving the female and minority vote.

Look at the big picture, we can't change the law just for Arnold, that's dangerous. Arnold is out. Jeb, no, this isn't England (wait twenty years for his son). I like Rice, but I think she may want out to have a life Wink . So, Rudi (like Barbara Bush 1) is pro choice, I don't see him shoving it down anyone's throat. He's big on the war and I like him.
