Intervention 200 Military

http://www.theis408cheytac.com/milmod/index.html

Rifle Description

The INTERVENTION is the most unique long-range rifle system available today. This bolt- action repeating rifle was designed for sub-minute accuracy at ranges never before achieved by any rifle on the market. While other “long range rifles” are stretched at 1500 yards, the INTERVENTION can engage targets at 2500 yards and beyond. The INTERVENTION was specifically designed to utilize the totally new and innovative 408 Cheyenne Tactical cartridge that delivers greater effective range, with less bullet drop and drift at all ranges, than any other cartridge in the world. The rifle was designed to be a modular system with options that meet every mission requirement. The INTERVENTION TACTICAL SYSTEM (ITS) provides every state-of-the-art option needed, including the ADVANCED BALLISTIC COMPUTER (ABC), to defeat any target, day or night, at extreme ranges and in nearly any weather condition. The INTERVENTION provides unmatched accuracy and dependability, along with extremely manageable recoil, making the rifle a pleasure to shoot.

Oh, Man, now I'm a trigamist(or at least an adulterer)

I'm married to my JAR, but I had a brief (obligatory) fling with a Barrett model 82.

Now there's this!!!! (Lord help me!!!!)

I know I don't post a lot, but if any of you love me, this would fit well under my tree this Christ-mass.

(Lone sighs heavily, and goes back to the pic.)

I do have to say that parts of it seem(just from the pics) to be a bit breakable. Trust me, these weapons have to be really solid to survive if the ...er...poop hits the fan and they get banged around a lot while we might be unassing the AO. The scope profile looks fragile to me, at least, a little fragile. I'm might be wrong, but I've been there and done that, as they say.

As usual, it's JMH(and professional) opinion.

The entire rifle was designed around the new cartridge that was developed. An amazing achivement in long range balistics:

THEIS & Lost River Ballistic Technologies Announce The Release Of A Revolutionary New 408 Cheyenne Tactical™ Long-Range Rifle Cartridge
Grosse Pointe Woods, MI – January 15, 2002 – Today Tactical High Energy Impact Systems (THEIS) and Lost River Ballistic Technologies (Lost River) announced the release of the long awaited 408 Cheyenne Tactical™ (CheyTac™) cartridge. The .408 CheyTac™ was developed to fill the need for a true intermediate sized cartridge, between the 7.62mm NATO and the 50 BMG cartridges, which could engage a target with sub-minute of angle accuracy at ranges of 2500 yards and beyond. The .408 CheyTac™ is the only cartridge on the market that is still supersonic at ranges over one mile.

The concept of the .408 CheyTac™ was first developed by THEIS co-owners, Dr. John D. Taylor and Willi Wordman in 1998. The original cartridge case design was based on the .505 Gibbs, but the THEIS engineers realized that to achieve the desired performance would require a chamber pressure of over 60,000 psi. This meant engineering a totally new case design that was both very high quality and much stronger than commercially available 505 Gibbs cartridge cases.

The cartridge case, however, was not the only problem to be overcome. It quickly became apparent that current projectile designs would not provide the sufficient stability necessary to achieve sub-minute accuracy at extreme ranges. In the fall of 1999 Dr. Taylor was introduced to Warren Jensen, inventor, ballistics expert and the co-owner of Lost River.

Jensen’s “balance flight theory” for bullet design, which currently has a patent pending, cures the overspin and precession problems suffered by other projectiles designed for long-range flight. These problems create yawing and buffeting that cause the projectile to become unstable, especially once the projectile transitions from supersonic to sub-sonic flight. A projectile using the balanced flight theory can be designed with a much higher ballistic efficiency and a dramatically increased accuracy range.

Warren Jensen stated, “The partnership with THEIS has given us the opportunity to prove what our ‘Balanced Flight’ technology could deliver in a real world scenario. The philosophy of ‘no compromises’ expressed by the folks at THEIS fit well with our own at Lost River. It was a perfect match from day one.”

Dr. John D. Taylor said, “We are very excited by the outstanding performance that the Lost River projectiles have provided for the 408 CheyTac™ cartridge. Lost River’s revolutionary ‘Balanced Flight’ technology has given us the capability for accuracy and repeatability at ranges that no other cartridge has ever achieved. ”

According to professional military sniping instructor, Dean Michaelis, Army Special Forces (retired) and president of Sniper Operations Executive, “The .408 Cheyenne Tactical™ can engage man-sized targets, accurately, at one mile and further. No other cartridge I’ve ever used, including the 50 BMG, has ever provided that kind of performance.”

Actually the Army is now Field Testing a modified Barrett Sniper Rifle. Instead of the 50 Cal Round they are chambered for a 20MM. Capable of taking out Lightly Armoured vehicles, punching holes in Walls, etc....
It has many of the capabilities of the one listed above, with future munitions in mind.
Yup, they have come a long way since I was in (never a sniper but, the all around advancements in all weapons and body armor is unreal!)
