On this week's "The Beltway Boys", the subject of Fred Barnes's "buzz"
segment was the incident during the campaign when Curt Schilling failed
to show up for a scheuled appearance with Bush, saying that the team
would not allow him to travel for medical reasons.

Fred said that recently Schilling admitted that the owners told him not
to go and then turned around and went campaigning for Kerry in the
same state. Schilling said that he decided to go campaign in Ohio for
Bush since the owners had shown their personal bias.

The really neat thing was that Fred said someone asked him later
what did he consider to be the most important - the BoSox winning
the WS or Bush winning the election. He said that Bush winning the
election was the most important. It's refreshing to see that some
athletes have the character and maturity to see the "big picture"
and not just what would be best for them or their team.

It seems that unlike most high profile athletes whose IQ is room temperature or less;
Curt has a brain besides his great athletic abilities.
And a couple big brass ones!

I love Curt Schilling!!
The Red Sox owners were in the tank for Kerry.
Remember when Kerry flew in at the last minute to throw
out the the first pitch. The owners shunted aside the military vet
who was scheduled to have the pitching honor.
And of course the wonderfully unbiased Katie Couric is in
a relationship with the Red Sox owner.
Curt showed what a man he is by thumbing his nose at
the owners and appearing with President Bush.
Just gotta love him!!

I've seen Curt Schilling one time in my life, in Philly on a day when he wasn't scheduled to pitch.

I'd lucked my way into a field press pass for a game between the Phillies and Dodgers. About an hour before the game started, Schilling and a few other players came out and started signing autographs for kids (and adults) who were stacked up along the 1st base side of the field.

Schilling stood out as, besides the only "name" player who was there, he was gracious, funny, down-to-earth, and took his time as he worked his way down the line.

He'd always been good but, for my money, on that day he demonstrated his greatness.

Let's not forget that Kerry was booed at his Fenway appearance.

Kerry's fiasco at Fenway was hilarious.

He was attempting to compare himself with President Bush throwing
out the first pitch of the World Series shortly after 9/11.

I remember chills of fear running down my spine as I watched
that brave man walk all alone out to the mound. (We didn't know if
the terrorists were targeting him).

There was no comparison.

Bush fired a perfect strike.
Kerry fired a grounder.

Kerry was booed.
Bush received a thunderous ovation.

Kerry is such a fake, a weak pretender to greatness. He was a war
hero don't you know?

Not that it matters, other than to demonstrate his athletic prowesss, but President Bush also fired that strike...while wearing a bullet-proof vest.

If memory serves me, it also seems that Kerry was asked to name his favorite Red Sox player, and either couldn't come up with a name or butchered a player's name pretty badly.

Kerry screwed up two names and blamed his dirt ball pitch on the catcher...a real class act.

Schilling won the championship for Phoenix. The D'backs went broke fielding that team.
