It's a good idea to never open any attachment, if you don't know who sent the email. Even if you do know who sent it, be wary, anymore. My anti-virus is pretty good at blocking incoming viruses. So far, it's caught them all.

Keep your anti-virus updated also. With the notoriety the ad brought, all of us who support SBVT are at an increased risk from nefarious emailers out there.

I have had numerous attempts of someone sending me viruses and trojan. Sent one to McAfee and they confirmed it was a new one. I did visit one ant-kerry site link that has a very long list of additional anyi-Kerry websites. Think when I visited one of those links on that site it put a Trojan into my computer. I scan my computer every day now. I think some of the less known ant-Kerry sites are intentionally just spoofs to sucker us in.

Also have had e-mail sent out using my address without my knowledge - I have received bounced messages that I never sent. The spoofer actually sent me several from me to me calle "Snake".

These are some low life bums. Keep your anti-virus up to date. We are under attack. I would like to track these SOB's down. I might have to commit atrocities of the likes of what Kerry said I did.

First off, US Army Infantry, 97-99, honorable discharge on a 2 year plus training contract at the age of 30.

Current computer technician in Austin, TX.

There are a few free virus scanners out there. Trend and McAfee (I believe) offer free online scans.

Grisoft.com has a free version of AVG antivirus that automatically updates itself and scans your computer. It also filters email and websites.

If you're willing to wade through it, there are other free antivirus programs available at sourceforge.com.

WoodyTX, hopefully not getting into trouble for "naming names".

Nope, WoodyTX - unless you're making big $$ from one of them. (You don't own Grisoft, do ya? Wink )

Seriously though, a recommendation offered sincerely is fine as long as the referrer isn't affiliated or stands to gain from the recommendation.

Exceptions are made for certain military-oriented charities, memorial funds, etc. Smile

I echoe Woody ---> the AVG has good coverage + you can't beat free (found mine through Google). With the problems of M$ Outlook, I would not recommend using it without a virus scanner (my viruses were sent to a new gmail account I set up though and thankfully it was autoscanned).

The online Trend is rather good.

The Mcafee is ok.

If you have the money, then a comercial package is usually the best choice as they try to keep fixes fast as possible. Have not used the freebies myself as companies tend to go commerical.

Before I got lectured Wink

It is also a good idea to upgrade your software. The engines as well as new attack methods are missed by old software.

I run AVG on all my machines, but stuff still gets through. I run Panda's free online scanner about every two weeks. It may be the best bar none.

It takes a little while to odwnload the intial software, because it's downloading tall the virus ID files, then it just updates that in subsequent runs. Once it starts runninng the scan you can go browsing again, since it doesn't run across the net, but is local on your machine.

These viruses are getting funnier and funnier. I had a virus attached to an email in my Yahoo account (the file was price2.zip).

It was supposedly from "karlashipley@hotmail.com." I know this was an email address spoofer because it just so happens that karlashipley@hotmail.com is MY other email address, and I didn't send myself anything in the past several days.

It would be nice if they were all that stupid. Rolling Eyes I reported it to Yahoo.

TrendMicro is the only online Virus Checker I know that actually will remove the virus that it finds.

Some of the others I have tried, just indentify it and say buy our product.

Here is the link

http://housecall.trendmicro.com/

I actually use there software, and can recommend it, it does not seem to slow down my computer like others I have tried.

I hear ya! We're on "Alert." Wink

In fact, the newest moderators consist of two from here and two that I know and trust from another online forum.

We hope to bring four more on from the other forum. I'd trust these people with my children.

Thanks! Smile

My work 'puter is 8 years old and runs Windows 95. It is supported
by nothing. I just tried to load the update of Real Player this morning
as the old one keeps kicking out WLS Chicago. Won't take. I'd
love a good total wipeout virus so I can get a new 'puter, but all I
get are 50 or so spams every morning and popup and popunder ads
when I try to read the funnies. I think that all meaningful virus
will only work on Windows 98 or better.

Shoot!

Crying or Very sad
