Mark Steyn writes in the Chicago Sun-Times:

I picked up the Village Voice for the first time in years this week. Couldn't resist the cover story: ''The Eve Of Destruction: George W. Bush's Four-Year Plan To Wreck The World.''
Oh, dear. It's so easy to raise expectations at the beginning of a new presidential term. But at least he's got a four-year plan. Over on the Democratic bench, worldwise they don't seem to have given things much thought. The differences were especially stark in the last seven days: In the first half of the week, Senate Dems badgered the incoming secretary of state, Condoleezza Rice -- culminating in the decision of West Virginia porkmeister Robert C. Byrd to delay the incoming thereof. Don't ask me why. Byrd, the former Klu Klux Klan Kleagle, is taking a stand over states' rights, or his rights over State, or some such. Whatever the reason, the sight of an old Klansman blocking a little colored girl from Birmingham from getting into her office contributed to the general retro vibe that hangs around the Democratic Party these days. Even "Eve Of Destruction," one notes, is a 40-year-old hippie dirge.
'Retro vibe' is a pretty apt description of the Dems as they slide into oblivion.

Hmmmm...might "retro vibe" replace "nuance" in the current lexicon of overused cliches? Good on ya Mark Steyn...I'll certainly employ it at the first opportunity |

Like the 'retro-vibe' thing. Been playing in my mind retro-progessive or 'retro-pro'.
"Eve of Destruction" brings to mind another song of similar vintage, "It's Good News Week" with cheering lines like, "They've slaughtered off the sacred cow; they've got alot to eat." |

Not long after Barry McGuire released Eve of Destruction, another group, the Spokesmen, released Dawn of Correction. Needless to say, it was the exact opposite to the left's doom and gloom of the mid 60s.
It's always doom and gloom to them, unless they are in power. Unfortunately, when they are in power, that's when the real doom and gloom actually sets in.
They have nothing new, just rehashing their glory days of youth in the 60s. _________________ Clark County Conservative |

Not to worry. Today it seems we will all freeze to death from global warming, so let's just go peacefully. _________________ 8th Army Korea 68-69 |

How many black americans (who have swallowed the lie the Democratic Party is their best bet) even know Byrd is a former KKK member? And even if they did, would the IRONY of a Democratic Klansaman trying to prevent a child of Birmingham (who knew the murdered four little girls by the way) dawn on them? |
