For those unfamiliar with Rafael Peralta he enlisted into the marines as a Mexican resident alien and achieved citizenship upon becoming a marine. When the battle for Falluja began the now SGT. Peralta volunteered to assist in house to house sweeps. Upon entry of a room in one of the sweeps he was shot down by some terrorists and close to death tucked the grenade thrown at his men under his body to absorb the blast, saving his men.

This post is the result of two earlier posts I made and a particular observance.

The first post was about a promising history book by Dr. Larry Schweikart and his posit that America is a nation blessed by God, because we honor him. http://www.swiftvets.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=18275

The second post was about Germany’s socialism and their indigenous population being replaced by an Islamic population. http://www.swiftvets.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=18278

Germany as well as all of Europe is losing their people to a low birth rate coupled with a very high immigration rate of Muslims. These Muslims do not assimilate into the German population; rather they create their own Eurabias within Germany, France and Spain.

This leads me to America and our own immigration issues. My family believes there are problems with immigration as in undocumented workers, but we believe America will fail without Mexican immigrants. It is our opinion that one of America’s greatest strengths is being the land of opportunity. This is not a political statement it is a truism. We must continue to promote immigration of people who want to participate in the American dream as granted by our belief in God. Mexicans are the current day German, Polish, Hungarian, Chinese, Irish the list goes on immigrant.

America is a more competitive and productive country then anywhere in the world and without an influx of people who pine for that ideal to compete in a fair marketplace, we will dissolve.

So next time you see a Mexican laborer working harder then anyone you know would be willing to commit, thank the person.

We could be Germany, France or Spain and be countries held in the Islamic captive not willing to assimilate because their motive is not to become a German, French or Spanish citizen, but rather their enemy.

Remind that Mexican, America is a better nation for Sgt. Peralta and the sacrifice he made for his belief and love for the American ideal.

Don't get those of us who are against illegal immigration wrong. We are not talking about the Mexican citizen who goes through the steps legally to get into this country to work and become an American citizen, or even just to work to support his family. As long as he is a legal resident alien and has a work permit, I and many others don't have a problem.

It is the ones who are not willing to take the steps to enter this country legally that we are not happy with.

Sgt. Peralta is like many fine Mexican-Americans who give their all for their country, as my father and brother did.

I have to agree with Maria. Having spent a considerable amount of time working in an Mexican auto parts plant (Guaymas) as plant engineer and seeing their work ethics, I would welcome most into this country. We just want to slow down the illegal freeloaders

We also have a large community here in the Wilamette Valley OR and for the most part they are hard working and good citizens. As with any, there is a bad apple in the barrel but they seem to get weeded out

I asked my brother who is a Texas state delegate and active in the Republican party to write something up on immigration to share with you.

Here it is,

Quote:
It used to be you would see sweat forming on knotted brows of politicians every time they were pressed for solutions to the long term solubility of social security. With Bush’s notable effort to privatize social security, the icon of big government is no longer taboo to speak about. But there is somewhere George W Bush fears to tread. A subject he steadfastly denies as an issue, even though it tears holes through his greatest strength, our defense against terrorism. This subject?

Illegal Immigration.

Illegal Immigration has become the new third rail of politics. Neither mainstream Democrats, nor mainstream Republicans dare to tread on the muddy banks of the Rio Grande. Only a few dare to speak out against it, and those that dare are already tarnished by unrealistic positions on other issues. Men like Pat Buchanan who would wall of the borders of America and cease nearly all trade with the outside world.

Why is Illegal immigration such an albatross? To put it bluntly, BOTH parties are actively courting the area of largest population growth in the country. Illegal Hispanics. Both parties leadership is afraid that if they anger this constituency, the Hispanics will solidify around one party as a block vote as Black Americans did in the last quarter of the 20th century.
It does not have to be so.

If one party comes up with a common sense solution to the immigration issue, they stand a good chance of securing the respect and likely votes of a great many Hispanics in the future. Because they already promote strong family values, Republicans stand the best chance of securing a majority of this voting group, IF they take proactive action. IF they take sensible action.

So far our immigration policy has been, to put it bluntly, comical. We leave our borders open, then complain when men, women and children brave risk death to cross the border region in search of a decent wage and a decent place to raise their family. We offer illegal immigrants free welfare services, when we should be offering them jobs. We handcuff our peace officers who in many instances cannot even ask if an individual is in our country illegally. We complain social security is going bankrupt, but rob the system by forcing illegal workers to NOT pay anything into the system.

You may ask what experience I have that makes me an authority regarding immigration. I may not be an “Expert” but I would like to tell you the true story about Roofing Company that had been in business about 8 years. This was a decent sized company with about 80 employees, approximately 80% of whom were Hispanic. One day this company was visited by armed INS agents prowling the premises as if they were busting a drug kingpin. They demanded to see the company’s employment records. Of course the business owners complied and allowed them to review the records. Burdened with the records they demanded, the agents stocked their vehicle and told the owners they would get back to them. A few days later, the armed lead agent showed up again and demanded to speak to the responsible parties. The Owners and Secretarial staff were told that this company had committed a grievous offense. They had hired illegal immigrants. The business owners protested that they had all the documentation required by law for all of their workers. The Agent admonished that many of the employees had provided false social security cards. The agent gave a directive that half of the company’s workforce was illegal and had to be fired within one hour. Several of these employees had worked for the company over 6 years. Many of them made decent living wages, anywhere from $7.50 per hour for newly hired laborers to supervisors making over $30k per year. The agent also stated that all of the hiring personnel had to undergo training before the company could hire any new workers. Once the training was complete, the company could begin hiring, but if the company hired ANY more illegal immigrants the person who reviewed the documentation would be criminally prosecuted and would likely end up in prison. The burden of proving each item of identification provided was legitimate was on the company. It is safe to say, the loss of half the workforce was a tremendous strain on the company. In a frantic effort to replenish the workforce, the owners put advertisements in multiple newspapers and on radio. Recruitment bonuses were offered to employees. Of course, most of the applicants were Hispanic, and most of them were illegal, thereby un-hirable. Wage scales were raised in an effort to entice others to work on a roof. But the fact is, most Americans will not, or can not work on a roof where the temperature reaches 140 degrees and where you have to work with asphalt heated to a temperature of over 500 degrees. Ridiculous offers were made of any wage to show up, and they failed to. In the end, the company was faced with a choice. They could either hire workers on a subcontract basis whereby they would pay NO money to social security, NO money for benefits, No coverage for workers compensation, No money in federal withholding, or the company could go out of business. Within one year the company was quietly shut down.

What happened to those workers, you might ask. Most of them are subcontractors now for other roofing contractors. They now pay NO money into the social security system. They now pay NO money into Medicare / Medicaid. They now have NO coverage for injuries through Workers Compensation. They now pay NO income taxes. They are part of a massive underground economy we can ill afford to continue.
What is the solution to this, you might ask.

Here is my plan.

1. Set up realistic immigration levels. Personally, I believe it Should be 1 – 2 million per year, more for the first year.
2. Notify all prospective and current illegal immigrants they MUST report to an immigrant processing location. These need not be fancy buildings, metal buildings would suffice. They should report to the processing station during or prior to the month of their birth. At this location they will receive a legitimate social security card and work permit (green card). They will be fingerprinted. Their picture will be taken. Make this part as easy as possible.
3. They will be ineligible for any federal welfare services until they become a US citizen.
4. Whenever someone is hired their social security number must be verified online or by automated phone. (We already have this system available)
5. They must obtain gainful employment within 4 – 6 weeks. Legitimate employment where taxes are paid.
6. If they are not entered into the social security system within 4 weeks, the social security computer needs to flag their name so they may be arrested and deported.
7. If they are out of the employment system for 4- 8 weeks at any time, the computer needs to flag their name so they may be arrested and deported.
8. All Drivers licenses need to require proof of citizenship, or valid work ID and social security number.
9. All voters need to be US citizens (Right now many non US citizens vote though loopholes).
10. End the practice whereby if a baby is born here to illegal immigrants it is a US citizen.

This solves many problems.

This removes the underground economy since all these workers will be paid by regular payroll.

This removes the burdens on the public health system because most will then be covered by workers compensation.

This will add to the social security coffers.

This will add to the income tax coffers.

This will add to the Medicare / Medicaid coffers.

This will add to the state and federal unemployment coffers.

This will stop illegal immigrants from gaining drivers licenses and voter cards.

This will ensure our buildings will continue to be built, roads paved, and meals served, among other things.

This will ensure they are paid at least minimum wage (In truth I have never seen an illegal paid less than minimum wage)

This will remove the threat of jail for employers trying to hire workers.

This will teach immigrants to follow rather than break the law.

This will insure immigrants are here to work, and not to soak up social services.

There are many details to refine, and I am negotiable to any points that need to be modified, but at least this is a starting point.

What kind of man is it that looks into the faces of his starving wife and children? Then says I got to go and make some money so I can feed you. Risks his life crossing the border works harder then I ever have sends most of what he earns back to his wife and children.

I say welcome to America go get your children we have room for you in this free land.

Now to any of you drug running, pimps and bandits coming across our border I hope our border patrol catches you and sends you back without even a sip of water that you may perish in the desert.

I'm fairly radical in my anti-illegal alien position. But, kudos to your brother. I agree with every point he proposes but the problem is a practical one. A million per year is almost unmanageable and a special task force will be needed, something like we do for the census every 10 years. Let's get them in the system, Americanize them and send the welcome wagon. If they refuse or hide, cuff them and deport them if you can. If not, treat them like mad dogs. Most of us have had it with this problem and our representatives are part of the problem.
