I apologize for this question.
I had just used the picture at the front of the website against the claim that none of the veterans served with Kerry.
This question came up: "If his superiors thought he was so unfit to serve, why didn't the court-martial him or demote him?"
I can think of an answer, but I think it would be better coming from a vet.
Sincerely,

Zoink...start with the article from The American Thinker entitled "Call Sign: Boston Strangler". You'll find a link to it in the "John Kerry in Vietnam" section of the main website. |

Well, we don't really know how many times Kerry may have been formally "counselled" (as it used to be called) because he won't release his service record.
It's entirely possible that he was on report for things like conduct unbecoming an officer, breach of responsibility and failure to follow a direct order - but we don't know, because we have only Kerry's version of his record - highly sanitized and missing a LOT of entries.
From the fitness reports that he has allowed to be posted on his site, a senior officer can look at them and tell you that had Kerry remained in the Navy, he likely would not have been promoted or sent to Destroyer school, effectively ending his career as a line (command) officer. There's much more about these fitness reports here on the site:

It was easier to get rid of him by foisting him off onto another command and that was a tactic that was commonly used with problematic personnel even when I was on active duty - late 70's - early 80's.
"Make him someone else's problem child." In this case, he went to a staff position, and even there, his performance was less than stellar, if you deconstruct his fitness reports for that position. _________________ ~ Echo Juliet ~

zoink ....
I gave you the answer to this question once before (view this forum post):
http://www.swiftvets.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=15461&highlight=#15461
At the end of the post is a link to the audio of an an interview with Tom Wright.
http://media.salemwebnetwork.com/WEBLOG/kmc/kerrysuperiorunedited.wma
Tom was Kerry's immediate superior on an number of missions. He describes
how Kerry was so unfit for his Swift Boat responsibilities that he needed to
to be removed and sent elsewhere.
I think you understand that "Unfit for Command" refers to being CIC of the US.
Rather than court martial a junior officer for poor performance or for bad
or susupiciious behavior, you ask for him to be removed. That is what Tom
did, and what the division command and Kerry evidently agreed with.

Thank you very much. I apologize for not catching this information in the link, and not reading the article (Which has been tabbed to read for the last few days).
I was able to use your other information to make a post that has so far gone unchallenged.
Again my apologies for making you repeat yourself.
Thank you all for taking the time to respond to me.
Sincerely,
