.

It seems that there is a growing trend by fringe political groups to use the
Swift Boat name in a derogatory context. One such usage is reported in a
recent article by Delaware's The News Journal and which apparently was
aimed at disrupting a speech by SBVFT major contibutor Robert Elder.

Many may remember Bob's memorable phrase: "We lost the war at home
... and at home, John Kerry was the Field General."

It saddens this crusty old Swifty that attempts are being made to associate
the reputation of not only the SBVFT/POWs, but also all Swift Boat sailors in
general, with an unpleasant conotation. Both the organization and the men
who served honorably deserve much better .... even from the moonbats

Committeewoman: Use of name inappropriate

DOVER -- Someone knew that timing was everything.

Bob Elder, the veteran whose group Swift Boat Veterans for Truth attacked
former presidential hopeful John Kerry, was the keynote speaker Friday
night at the state GOP Committee's annual dinner in Dover. But hours
before he took the podium, a mysterious group calling itself Swift Boat
Republicans for Truth sent an e-mail to party members with a visceral
assault on state GOP Chairman Terry Strine.

<snip>

Speaking to a crowd of about 250, Bob Elder said he was disappointed
that someone would dishonor his group's name. But he said the group
wouldn't try to track down the person responsible for the e-mail because
it did not want to dignify the sender with that level of attention.

My husband went to this meeting also to hear Bob speak. Bob did an excellent job--he had the CD with the commercials on it and showed several of them. Bob was very well received.

Unfortunately, the News Journal was/is very pro-Kerry and was not particularly nice to Bob or George in any of its articles prior to the election. Even for this article, the headline was very misleading. Apparently there are some problems with the leadership of the State Republican Party and someone was trying to cash in on the fact that Bob was the speaker. I considered writing a letter to the editor but realized that in this case it would do no good.

I wish someone could forward that email to me so I can try to track down where it came from. This is an attempt to put a rift into a very successful SBVT campaign.
