My good Marine friend, GOC in NC, over at Obnoxious Droppings alerted the me to this absurdity. Seems Schenectady school officials have determined that red, white and blue are now gang colors. Head over to Stark Truth for the details.

And these same school officials probably see the Marines, Army, Navy, Air Force and Coast Guard as the biggest gangs. Cretins running public education.

Colorful beads lead to court

>school’s dress code is listed
8. Students will not wear any clothing deemed to be gang-related, including, but not limited to, bandannas, colors or flags.

>school officials said on Fox’s "Hannity & Colmes." that they don’t have a gang problem

>a lawyer who specializes in civil and constitutional rights violations cases, said several of Raven's friends also have been told not to wear the beads even though the Mont Pleasant dress code does not mention beaded jewelry as a banned item.

this is absurd, what a ridiculous mess

Thanks Kate. I am a native of Brooklyn, so in that respect it is close to home for me as well. It almosts sounds like racial profiling. I note flags in the ban on "gang" clothing. Sounds like they can also ban some one from wearing Old Glory as well.

The wearing of “Colors” is banned in Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) also and for a valid reason. Young people die when they flash gang colors. Even the colors of their shoelaces and how they are laced represent a symbol of gang affiliation.

I taught in the LAUSD system for five years at a high school after I retired. The perimeter of the school campus is surrounded by a twelve-foot high cyclone fence and the students are locked inside during the school day. There is one entrance to the school and they all pass thru security prior to entering the campus. This is standard for LAUSD inner city campuses.

Drive-by-shootings are rare but they do occur as shots are fired at the campus from gang members passing by. Football games around the city are tightly guarded events and yet on occasion shots ring out and fans scurry for cover. This is life in the inner city where the gangs recruit higher numbers than any other organization. Inner city kids gravitate towards gangs to earn drug money, for protection, for respect and a sense of belonging they don’t find anywhere else. A gang member or gang wannabe entering the wrong area, displaying the wrong gang signs or wearing the wrong colors can be a death sentence carried out by instant on-the-spot execution. Another statistic that suburban mom and dad go tish tish about and dismiss as an inner city problem that doesn’t effect their kids or their way of life.

Well folks those days are long gone now and the gangs have moved into suburbia. Hip Hop and Gangster Rap are playing in your neighborhoods now and the gangs are as successful recruiting the kids from suburbia as they were in the inner city. So don’t blow off as a fad what colors your kids wear, it could be you getting the call one night to visit the morgue and claim their body.

Support your school district when they ban the wearing of Red (The Bloods) or Blue (The Cryps) or any of the other colors associated with Hispanic, Black, Asian or White organized gangs. This is a rule that let’s your children live to adulthood. Above all, it should be a rule you can live with. It ain't patriotic to die for the color of the shirt your wearing or the beads around your neck.

Cool Cool Cool
