"The Corporation for Public Broadcasting will begin an internal review of political monitoring of PBS programming in response to Democratic complaints, the CPB's inspector general said Thursday.

Reps. David Obey and John Dingell have asked for the review into several actions by CPB board chairman Kenneth Y. Tomlinson, a Republican, including the hiring of a consultant to review the guests on the show "Now With Bill Moyers."

The New York Times reported last week that the consultant kept track of "anti-Bush," "anti-business" and "anti-Tom DeLay" guests on the show. Moyers has left the show and now hosts "Wide Angle" on PBS.
"We are committed to performing a review and looking at the record and giving them the information they asked for," CPB Inspector General Kenneth A. Konz told The Associated Press.

Moyers was on vacation Thursday and unavailable for comment, his representative said. He is scheduled to address the issue Sunday in speech to the National Conference for Media Reform in St. Louis."

DEM CONGRESSMEN: CONSERVATIVE VOICES ON PBS MAY BE ILLEGAL

Two congressional Democrats called Wednesday for an investigation into recent activities by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, suggesting that efforts by the Republican chairman of the private nonprofit to add more conservative programs onto PBS may violate federal law.

In a letter released Wednesday evening, Rep. David Obey, D-Wis., and Rep. John D. Dingell, D-Mich., asked CPB Inspector General Kenneth A. Konz to investigate the contracting, hiring and policies of the corporation, which distributes federal funds to public television stations. Both congressmen are ranking Democrats on committees that have oversight of public television.

They called recent actions taken by CPB Chairman Kenneth Tomlinson ``disturbing'' and ``extremely troubling.''

A CPB spokesman could not be reached for comment. But in a recent interview with the LOS ANGELES TIMES, Tomlinson defended his efforts to expand conservative perspectives on PBS, saying he merely wants to increase the network's audience.

Developing....

Apparently the Leftists are horrified that THEIR PUBLICLY-OWNED MOUTHPIECE might be contaminated by a Conservative.

HORRORS!!!

After all, THEY HAVE OWNED IT for the last forty years and there
must be a law against any Conservative tampering with THEIR PROPERTY!!

Oh, wahhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

Boy, it would be just terrible if taxpayer-funded media institutions were required to be fair and balanced, wouldn't it?

Inclusivity - isn't that what leftists preach? So, now a move is made to make this public entity more inclusive and they go crying to mommy? I friggin' love it - I really do.

So (pathetically) transparent.

Defund CPB and PBS/NPR. Let'em collapse on their own. Our tax dollars can be better spent or better yet refunded.

Typical looney left seed planting. They feel just stating something "may be illegal," is enough to plant in sheeples minds that it is. Look how they are doing DeLay.

Isn't it funny how anything the left says is alright, but when the right speaks, it's "may be illegal?"

Talk about hypocritical....this comes after they tried to get Rush Limbaugh taken off Armed Forces Radio.

Let's be really fair here and let PBS/CPB stand in the marketplace without the benefit of government funding. That would stifle debate on PBS/CPB's alleged bias.

They may be competitive, with Air America.
