In yet another round of cutbacks, several military bases have been or will be closed. Why can't one of these bases or at least part of one be turned over to support disabled vets?

Many have new or decent housing, some have hospitals built in the seventies which could still be used. The cost to the government would be minimal compared to what these brave people have donated. It could be used as a recovery area for our returning disabled vets. It could be run by them as well, giving them skills they need when returning.

Instead of dumping the property to developers that seem to give hefty campaign donations, giving these vets a method and an area of recovery seems to make a lot more sense. I don't mean another government program, turn the property over to a veterans trust and they will find the support. The government would still be required to take care of their normal bills, treatments, etc.

Just a thought. It's the very least we could/should do.

That sounds like a proposal worth taking to a Congressman, any of them that may support it. Sometimes all it takes is an idea from one of us that they grab and push and use as a political platform.
