I almost choked when I heard the news tell that Tyson Chicken is stopping production today because of the number of workers that are "in sympathy" with the illegal aliens boycott.

If Tyson hires so many "illegal" employees that they have to shut down, why am I buying premium chicken from them? So now every time I hear of a business that had to shut down because their workers honored the boycott, I am not buying from them. I don't approve of businesses doing anything illegal much less giving under paid jobs to illegal aliens.

If you are worried about avian flu in the USA then buy your chicken from Tyson.

The birds are raised in covered screened-in pens, nobody can enter the pens without donning disposable booties, a disposable gown, walking through a disinfectant pool to sterilize their shoes, and every few weeks Tyson sends a batch of chickens to be tested for diseases. There’s not a lot of chance for these birds to become infected. Ole’ Man Tyson isn’t taking any chances on putting any of his livestock in jeopardy.

Although I don't agree with Tyson's practice of hiring illegals, I applaud their actions at keeping our food supply safe. I can't imagine them hiring illegals unless they can't get sufficient legal employees to staff their facilities.

If you make all of the illegal aliens US citizens, then they will not take the jobs either. They will avail themselves of the government entitlements that make our citizens by birth not want to do those jobs. Americans used to do those jobs until the socialist welfare state convinced them they had too much self esteem to do the jobs. I grew up doing those jobs along side other family members until I joined the Navy out of high school.

My father died when I was three years old leaving the family penniless. People told my mother to go on welfare. Her reply was “My family will never be on welfare, we can work.” Being a waitress in 1950 paid a dollar a day plus tips. Working in agriculture was piece work which paid much more if you worked very hard. She could also take her children to the fields with her instead of paying for child care. I remember being four years old picking cotton along side my mother and learning my ABCs with a stick in the dirt during lunch breaks. It didn’t hurt me, but it is illegal now for kids to work in agriculture in most states.

In 1950 many Americans refused to go on welfare choosing to work migrant and undesirable jobs. In 2006 most Americans refuse to work the less desirable jobs and welfare is not only acceptable, it is expected.

Exactly correct. Anyone who needs money will work doing anything if the governemt doesn't tell them they don't have to do that kind of work.

I work in the fields as a part time job. I am 63 years old, own a business which happens to be a flower nursery. The funny thing is, my business is so small I don't make enough money to get embroiled in the government if I should hire someone part time. It isn't that I can't pay some kid for Saturday work at minimum wage or a little better. But the person that does my taxes said I should not get involved with hiring someone. So my husband and I work from sun up to sun down for maybe $1,000 a month for 4 months. That is all my business can do since agriculture is seasonal.

It sounds to me like the Democrats are wanting to keep the under class, the under class to take care of the children, work for low wages, clean up after them, and serve them in restaurants and in their homes. Did you hear Hillary's speech? She said, "These are the faces of the people who clean up after us...." I am so sick of the political spin on this. For goodness sake, close the borders, remember that illegal means breaking the law. Twisted Evil Rolling Eyes

Yea, let's have a Minimum Wage Law. And if we make the minimum wage high enough, we just might price ourselves out of a job.
Another one of those upside down, inside out, convoluted concepts that assure eventual collapse.
Why do companies go overseas to build their manufacturing plants and outsource every job they can? Three guesses and the first two don't count.
And then lets allow people to flock into this country and just because they are here illegally, companies can hire them for wages far below the minimum wage we have set for legal citizens.

The Minimum Wage law! Worst damn piece of legislation we ever came up with right behind welfare without work.

Boycott any business that you know of that closed in support of the strike today. Illegals do not or should not have the right to strike. They are Illegals and should have been arrested. Where is the INS?

Tyson's can go suck eggs as far as I'm concerned from now on.
And that's what I've been wondering. What do we pay those guys for? If they aren't going to do their job, why do we need them on the payroll?
I am one mad individual.

yes, even the women (most of them) on the liberal msg board I post on are doing that.
and I did take a drive over to town today to check my local favorite Mexican diner - to see if they were open. They were! I'm so glad I don't have to boycott them!

There is a minimum wage law but that is a joke. Restaurant's don't have to pay the minimum wage. It is presumed that there will be tips to make up the difference. I wonder how a business can get away with not paying at least the minimum wage.

I live in a rural town of about 15,000. There are a few latino faces working at Walmart, Kmart, McDonalds etc., but very few. All those people started out near minimum no matter their nationality. There are more than latinos working for low wages.
