ITALY: "SCHOOL FOR SUICIDE BOMBERS" DISCOVERED IN NORTHERN ITALY

Rome, 27 July (AKI) - A "school" for suicide bombers has been discovered by the Italian intelligence services (SISMI) in the northern Italian region of Lombardy, according to a report of the Italian newspaper, La Stampa. The "school" has been reportedly under observation for several weeks, well before the July 7 London bombings, and SISMI has compiled a detailed dossier with names and operational information. However, a leading Muslim leader, reacting to the report, has asked why - if potential terrorists have been identified in Milan - they have not been arrested.

After September 11, 2001, Italy has been subject to various security alerts according to which terrorist groups and suicide bombers were ready to attack the Vatican, the underground transport system of Milan and Rome or historic cities like Venice and Florence. This time, La Stampa reports, the details in the intelligence dossier draw a more worrisome picture.

In its front-page story La Stampa highlights SISMI's concern about the existence of independent operational cells that can count on the help of instructors who have been trained in Iraq.

However, Abdel Hamid Shaari - the director of Milan's Institute of Islamic Culture, which has been the subject of various police enquiries - questions the report and asks why the police did not arrest potential terrorists.

"The only school I know is in Milan, in via Quaranta, next to the city's main mosque. And it has a dialogue with the town council, the province, the region and the Catholic university. It certainly is not a hidden school" he told AdnKronos International (AKI).

Shari then added that if the Italian intelligence services had information of suicide bombers, "they should denounce them, otherwise the terrorists might escape." He said that if he were aware of terrorists in Milan or elsewherehe would be the first to denounce it.

The local authorities are keeping the Islamic community in Italy under surveillance, monitoring not only the extremist groups but also normal everyday activities like halal butcheries, call centers and Internet cafes.

ITALY: TUSCANY IS POSSIBLE AL-QAEDA TARGET

Rome, 26 July (AKI) - Blair's preferred holiday spot - the Italian region of Tuscany - may be an al-Qaeda target in the month of August, when the British prime minister and his family are due to spend time at friend's Tuscan country house, according to the Italian newspaper Il Giornale. The newspaper referred to information gathered by German intelligence that spoke of Tuscany as a possible al-Qaeda target by the end of August.

The information was picked up by an undercover agent in an al-Qaeda cell. During a religious celebration the agent heard people suspected of being linked to a German Salafist group tell another Muslim "brother" not to go to Tuscany in July and August. "Go where you want to, but don't go to Tuscany. Take heed from us, stay well away from that region until the end of August," the agent is said to have heard them warn.

The choice of Tuscany as a terrorist target can be explained by Blair's 10 year-long habit of spending his summer holidays in the region. Il Giornale also indicated the historic Tuscan cities of Siena and Florence as symbolically and politically valuable terrorism targets.

The information leaked from German intelligence is now being analised by Italian anti-terrorism analysts.

The folks in the Tuscany area may want to go somewhere on vacation during that time period after learning about this.

Might as well add US prisons as breeding grounds for terrorist converts.

Here's a scary story. A Los Angeles Crips gang member goes to prison for an assortment of violent crimes. In prison, he converts to Islam. As soon as he gets out, he hooks up with another recent convert and goes on a gas station robbing spree to get money for??? Police found Jihadist materials in their homes as well as lists of targets.

Mind you these two aren't arabs, Pakistanis, etc. They are basically inner city Great Society kids. Kinda ironic some of the victims of their crime spree were Middle Eastern gas station owners.

In Canada, the Jihadists limit their fundraising crimes to those punishable by less than ten years, as that's the threshold for being deported.
