60 years ago today Japan surrendered and WW II was ended.

Half my family (the wife's side) suffered a lot from that war. My dad and four uncles fought in that war (Marines, Army, and Navy), and they all came home. Some of them were wounded along the way.

I have a friend from Canada (civilian) who started digging into the POW camps in Taiwan for some reason, and has started a museum about it all, gotten the Taiwan government to allow/support memorials at the old camp sites, and so on. He is part of an organization that has gathered the survivors and brought them back for ceremonies honoring their sacrifice.
