The Kerry campaign has put out the lie that J.C. Carreon was a doctor. The New York Times printed it:

A doctor, Louis Letson, repeats accusations he made in newspaper interviews this spring that Mr. Kerry did not deserve his first Purple Heart because his wounds resulted from a ricochet off friendly fire, saying in the advertisement, "I know John Kerry is lying about his first Purple Heart because I treated him for that injury." The Kerry campaign pointed out yesterday, as it had previously, that another doctor, J. C. Carreon, signed Mr. Kerry's treatment record.

The letter from Kerry's lawyers to station managers also implied that J.C. Carreon was a doctor:

Further, the "doctor" who appears in the ad, Louis Letson, was not a crewmate of Senator Kerry's and was not the doctor who actually signed Senator Kerry's sick call sheet. In fact, another physician actually signed Senator Kerry's sick call sheet. Letson is not listed on any document as having treated Senator Kerry after the December 2, 1968 firefight.

In Unfit for Command, however O'Neill and Corsi quote Letson as saying: "I remember that Jess Carreon was present at the time and he, in fact, made the entry into Lt. Kerry's medical record."

A footnote to this quotation states: "Kerry's campaign has tried to deny Dr. Letson's treatment of Kerry by pointing to the different signature on Kerry's medical report. The report was signed by the corpsman assigned to Dr. Letson, Jess Carreon, now deceased, according to U.S. Navy records."

Is there documentation to show that Letson was where Kerry was at that time and how many if any other doctors were there?

Ladies and Gentlemen,

We sincerely appreciate this conversation, but it is entirely meaningless as to whether or not the PH should have been issued.

The entire crew of the boat, with the exception of Kerry, said they took no enemy fire and the wound was self-inflicted through Kerry's own carelessness. Very Happy
