As can be expected, our boy sKerry is off in Egypt sowing discord.

Kerry Criticizes Bush in Egypt

Quote:
"I have always believed that the Middle East peace process is the critical issue of the region, and it has not been focused on for the past 6-7 years adequately," the Massachusetts Democrat told reporters after meeting Mubarak. "I think there has been a huge loss of opportunities."

>>snip<<

"I think it is important to talk and have a dialogue, but you don't give up our principles and you don't make deals that are against your larger interest. Syria needs to understand that and also Iran, but I think it is important to begin a discussion," Kerry said.

Meanwhile, Iraqi leaders, quoted in an Wall Street Opinion Journal piece, soundly reject the Baker-Hamilton call for surrender. The author of the WSOJ piece ends with;

Quote:
This Iraqi criticism also underscores that the ISG report was less about winning in Baghdad than about splitting political differences in Washington. As Mr. Bush re-examines Iraq policy with an eye toward announcing significant changes early next year, we trust he understands better than the ISG that a partnership with the Iraqi government is essential to any successful outcome.

Iraqis reject the Baker-Hamilton report

It appears to me that, as we all know, Kerry is less about what is good for America or even the Iraqis, and more for what Kerry wants for himiself.

Once again, Kerry is in clear violation of Amendment XIV, Section 3 of the Constitution as he was in the '70s:

Quote:
No person shall be a Senator or Representative in Congress, or elector of President and Vice-President, or hold any office, civil or military, under the United States, or under any State, who, having previously taken an oath, as a member of Congress, or as an officer of the United States, or as a member of any State legislature, or as an executive or judicial officer of any State, to support the Constitution of the United States, shall have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same, or given aid or comfort to the enemies thereof. But Congress may by a vote of two-thirds of each House, remove such disability.

But, once again, nothing will happen to him. As he makes this trip the preamble to another run for the presidency, all we can do is stand by and wait for the call of the SwiftVets.

EDIT: If Amendment XIV doesn't float anyone's boat, there's always the Logan Act, still on the books since 1799:

Quote:
Any citizen of the United States, wherever he may be, who, without authority of the United States, directly or indirectly commences or carries on any correspondence or intercourse with any foreign government or any officer or agent thereof, with intent to influence the measures or conduct of any foreign government or of any officer or agent thereof, in relation to any disputes or controversies with the United States, or to defeat the measures of the United States, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than three years, or both.
This section shall not abridge the right of a citizen to apply himself, or his agent, to any foreign government, or the agents thereof, for redress of any injury which he may have sustained from such government or any of its agents or subjects.

Perhaps so Schadow but, unlike 1971, there are voices being raised against this sedition and treasonous activity...an example from the blogosphere...

Quote:

THE CENTRIST: Hey John Kerry, Who’s Stupid Now?

John Kerry is at it again. In the early 1970s, John Kerry traveled to France while still officially on active duty with the United States Navy and met with representatives of the North Vietnamese government in Paris for peace talks with the U.S.

While he was never charged, or prosecuted for treason, there are many, especially veterans of the Vietnam War, who believe he should have been tried for treason [Violation of allegiance toward one's country or sovereign, especially the betrayal of one's country by waging war against it or by consciously and purposely acting to aid its enemies.] and/or sedition [Conduct or language inciting rebellion against the authority of a state.]. None of this, of course, mentions his perjurious testimony before Congress.

Now, the man who thinks that American fighting men and women in Iraq have no brains, the man who libeled all of those who fought in Vietnam by calling them ‘war criminals’ [which begs the question if he includes himself in that characterization] has done it again. Kerry has met with the President of Syria, and now he is trying to meet with the President of Iran…just days after that man called for the eradication of Israel. [Iran’s President Ahmadinejad has much in common with another Democrat, former President Jimmy Carter, who’s latest book appears to lay the entire weight of mideast unrest squarely on the presence of Israel, calling for…who knows, the eradication or physical relocation of Israel???!! Apparently such thinking [or rather lack thereof] is in whatever the Democrats seem to be drinking these days.]

The last anyone heard, diplomacy is an extension of the policy of the government of the United States of America, and it is solely within the purview of the Office of the President to make that policy. United States Senators are elected to make laws, and pass reconciled appropriations negotiated with the House of Representatives and the Administration [Executive Branch]. The Senate also hears impeachment trials, gives their ‘advice and consent’ on Presidential appointments, and ratifies [or not as the case may be] treaties with other nations negotiated by authorized members of the United States Department of State. It is not within the purview of a United States Senator to make diplomatic, or even fact finding visits abroad, to give or obtain information from heads of foreign states, or to negotiate with those heads of state, without the express consent of the President of the United States.

It is certainly not within the purview of a United States Senator to circumvent the Constitution of the United States by usurping the power vested in the President under Article II, Section 2: “He [the President] shall have Power, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate, to make Treaties, provided two-thirds of the Senators present concur; and he shall nominate, and by and with the advice and consent of the Senate, shall appoint Ambassadors, other public Ministers and Consuls…”.

Perhaps John Kerry is in the early stages of dementia and thinks he actually won the presidency in 2004.

It is long past time for this arrogant, treasonous a**wipe to pay his bill. He cheated his way through Vietnam, then turned on his comrades-in-arms, dealing dishonesty after dishonesty as part of a planned campaign against the Vietnam War called Operation Winter Soldier. Now he will attempt to do the same thing again.

Remember how he squealed about the unfairness of the Swift Boat Veterans who told the real story of Kerry’s Vietnam ‘service’ and his ‘wounds’ and his patently phony decorations? I firmly believe that issue, along with his patented arrogance and elitist attitude cost him the election.

For four years John Kerry and just about every other Democrat have been heaping invective and insults, and downright lies at President Bush. He has never responded in kind. Now, in part because they think they have won a mandate of some sort, the Democrats think they can dictate policy to a sitting president.

The last group of politicians who tried that were the Southern Democrats of 1860, and they became so out of control they attempted to secede from the United States causing a mortal Civil War.

What Kerry is doing is not just an insult to the President, it is an insult to this nation, and to every single citizen.

It is also treason. I hope this time they nail the s.o.b. for it!

The courageous Boston Herald weighs in with this today:

Kerry rewrites U.S. foreign policy to fix Iraq wisecrack

Some people seem to have an unerring instinct for the wrong side of history. You can rely on them, at critical moments, to abandon friends and accommodate evil, in the name of good.

Neville Chamberlain famously chose to talk with Adolph Hitler, and believed him when he agreed to peace in 1938. But Chamberlain was big enough a man to admit he was wrong in 1939, and to throw his support behind the winner when war broke out and he was politically beaten.

John Kerry has reversed that tragic historical formula. Politically beaten in 2004 in the midst of a war he supported but then rejected, he is now going to Syria to feel out a dictator’s mood for peace. He wants to hear what Bashir al-Assad’s thoughts are on Lebanon, Hezbollah and Iraq. The White House and State Department say this visit will only lend credibility to a meddling, unreliable dictator who routinely rejects U.S. proposals.

“I’m going to push them (the Syrians) on a number of different issues. I’m curious about what they might or might not be willing to do as we go forward here,” Kerry said last week. “Do they have any suggestions how the various equations in the region might be changed?”

No doubt about it: They do.

Kerry added last week in Cairo that he’s also ready to go to Tehran. He just doesn’t have time for this most important mission at the moment. This has a bit of the “for it before I was against it” feel to it. Iran just did that big Holocaust denial thing, and even John Kerry recognizes this isn’t a good time to be grandstanding with crazy anti-Semites. Al-Assad, on the other hand, accused of backing assassinations in Lebanon, having taken over the domination of that country from his dad . . . somehow Kerry must think he can come off looking like the engaged foreign policy whiz.

Here’s what one respected Iraq blogger, Omar at www.IraqtheModel.com who lives with the bloodshed outside his door, had to say late last week about talking to Syria and Iran:

Quote:
“The history of the Middle East - one full of blood from coups - taught us not to trust clerics nor dictators. Both never keep promises and they can come up with pretexts to feel good about their lies; clerics would say they had to do so to serve God and the community and dictators . . . well, they have no respect for their people in the first place, so why would we expect them to feel ashamed of not keeping promises!”

It doesn’t take a great student of history to see that. But Kerry very much needs to make up for the devastation he wrought on his own presidential dream with that stupid Iraq wisecrack. An end run around U.S. foreign policy looks like the way to go.

Beyond that shallow goal, however, the depth of Kerry’s interest in dealing with murderous dictators was revealed in Cairo last week. He said talking to them is a necessary step to resolving problems in the region. But the Bush administration’s push for democracy “has been counterproductive . . . It’s created turmoil and uncertainty.”

Sorry. The turmoil and uncertainty were not created by giving people the opportunity to freely express their political will for the first time. It was created by dictators, mullahs and terrorists who do not care to see a free, modern state emerge in their midst. It was created by the people whose suggestions for changing the various equations in the region Kerry is seeking out.

Just as 35 years ago, Kerry sought to advance his career by abandoning Vietnam to murderous communists, he now wants to throw Iraq to the wolves. Like a disaster-seeking missile aimed at the wrong side of history.

The good news as of late last week was that President Bush is signaling he plans to stay in this fight.

Kerry’s ‘mission’ has a down side

By Boston Herald editorial staff
Saturday, December 16, 2006

Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.) is once again indulging his role as minister without portfolio. This time it’s a “fact-finding” mission to the Mideast, including a stop in Syria for a chat with its autocratic “president,” Bashar Assad.

The former Democratic presidential candidate told the Associated Press he wanted to explore “what might or might not affect behavior with respect to Hezbollah, Lebanon, Israel and Iraq, where in each of those cases Syria is playing a role.”

No, we haven’t a clue what that means either, but then we in Massachusetts are used to Kerry being Kerry.

The White House is less than pleased with the current spate of freelance diplomacy by every Democrat with presidential ambitions looking to beef up his foreign policy credentials. (Sen. Chris Dodd, D-Conn., also plans to meet with Assad.) Spokesman Tony Snow called such visits “inappropriate” in that they represent a public relations victory for Damascus, which thus far has done everything in its power to keep the pot boiling in the region.

But, Kerry insisted, “Nothing in the discussion is based on trust,” which ought to come as news to Assad. “But you cannot get to [action and verifiability] without setting up the modalities. So you have to engage in some dialogue.”

Well, that clarifies everything, no?
