John Kerry has received three Purple Hearts that we now know were for relatively minor wounds. This makes Jim Rassmann’s account of Kerry rescuing him even though “wounded” a bit overly dramatic. And that extra drama was obviously intentional in order to maximize the image of Kerry as brave war hero.
I am wondering why Rassmann would choose to do this.
If we KNOW he is exaggerating this aspect for dramatic effect, isn’t it reasonable to conclude he may be exaggerating other aspects as well? For example, being fired upon from both banks?
This provable exaggeration does tend to lend more credibility to the vets account of the same incident while diminishing Rassmann’s.
(BTW, does anyone know if Kerry incented Rassmann somehow? Perhaps writing Rassmann up for medals, helping him get a safer assignment, or some such? (Perhaps not possible considering that Rassmann was not Navy, but worth investigating.) |
