CHICAGO (Reuters) - He struck back at George W. Bush, took on Hillary Clinton, and reacts rapidly when criticized by John McCain.
Democrat Barack Obama, who is close to winning his party's presidential nomination, has adopted a lesson from the losing campaign of John Kerry, the 2004 Democratic candidate: when attacked, respond quickly.
"If somebody attacks you, you've got to fight back, and you've got to fight back immediately," Obama communications director Robert Gibbs said. "You can't waste any time."
Kerry, a Massachusetts senator, was slow to react to efforts aimed at discrediting his military service in Vietnam by a group called Swift Boat Veterans for Truth, and President Bush won a second term in office.
The Obama campaign has taken note.

"If only Kerry had responded sooner and more forcefully". "If only Kerry had been financially capable of responding in August 2004". What has become an article of faith in political circles incapable of coming to terms with the SUBSTANTIVE success of the SVPT may be leading them down a primrose path to disaster in 2008.
It's the SUBSTANCE of allegations and the substantive nature of responses that will win the political day...not the speed with which such allegations are rebutted. An unvetted John Kerry couldn't respond...and it cost him the presidency.
I believe BHO and the Demo party are in for a rude awakening. |

The crack-up of the Dems. It's really been fun reading this weekend.
Obama and Kerry are both such empty suits. Both wax eloquently, but ultimately saying nothing or 'uh' something?? and leave you scratching your head saying "HUH?"
