Those of us who were around in 1964 know that Republican candidate Barry Goldwater portrayed Democratic candidate Lyndon Johnson as a crook. LBJ responded by portraying Goldwater as lacking the competence and/or mental stability to be president.

One of the most effective ads is called "The DAisy Ad" in it a little girl is shown pulling the petals off a daisy followed by a video of a nuclear explosion.

Obama has made a number of statements that raise questions about his competence. For example his statement last year about openly invading nuclear armed Pakistan to capture bin Laden. then there is his statement about the U.S. having 57 statements. Republicans have been talking about Obama's recent comment "my Muslim faith" which, if he isn't Muslim, indicates an inability to communicate effectively. The statement he made doesn't work if he meant to say "Christian faith". If he isn't Muslim the entire sentence is faulty.

I heard a comment recently that some poll indicates 50% of voters doubt he has the experience to handle the job. If that number can be increased, he has no chance of winning.
