From my blog (http://raincrossconservative.blogspot.com/) where I also have info about a new study that shows the Swift Ad is turning swing voters away from Kerry.

The Boston Globe has a new article out with the misleading headline "Kerry disputes allegations on Cambodia." Kerry doesn't do anything of the sort. He has a spokesperson read a statement.
Boston Globe

Quote:
But the Kerry campaign said that the group, which calls itself Swift Boat Veterans for Truth, is wrong and that Kerry was inside Cambodia to drop off special forces on one mission and was at the border on other occasions.
"During John Kerry's service in Vietnam, many times he was on or near the Cambodian border and on one occasion crossed into Cambodia at the request of members of a special operations group operating out of Ha Tien," Kerry spokesman Michael Meehan said in a statement. The statement did not say when the cross-border mission took place.

The article ends up making Kerry look pretty bad overall because the statements of his campaign doesn't match what he said through the years.
Also, the artcle does shed some new light on the story.
Quote:
Kerry said in a 2003 interview that after the Christmas Eve 1968 engagement, he asked his crew to write a caustic telegram to the chief of naval forces in Vietnam, Elmo Zumwalt Jr., to wish him "Merry Christmas from the troops that weren't in Cambodia, which was us. We were." Meehan, in his statement issued last week, described the incident this way:
"On December 24, 1968, Lieutenant John Kerry and his crew were on patrol in the watery borders between Vietnam and Cambodia deep in enemy territory. In the early afternoon, Kerry's boat, PCF-44, was at Sa Dec and then headed north to the Cambodian border. There, Kerry and his crew along with two other boats were ambushed, taking fire from both sides of the river, and after the firefight were fired upon again. Later that evening during their night patrol they came under friendly fire."
James Wasser, who accompanied Kerry on that mission aboard patrol boat No. 44 and who supports Kerry's candidacy, said that while he believes they were "very, very close" to Cambodia, he did not think they entered Cambodia on that mission. Yet he added: "It is very hard to tell. There are no signs."
Another crewmate who said he was with Kerry on Christmas Eve, Steven Gardner -- who is a member of the veterans group opposing Kerry's candidacy -- said Kerry was 50 miles from Cambodia at the time. He accused Kerry of lying about being in Cambodia or by the border. "Never happened," Gardner said.

The Kerry camp is still claiming that Kerry actually did go into Cambodia later on a secret mission to drop up some special forces and that there is no paperwork for that mission. What really hurts this is that there is no evidence that Swift Boats were ever used for these missions they are unsuited for that (though the article doesn't mention that).
Even one of Kerry's "Band of Brothers" said he doesn't remember ever going on one of these secret missions.

Quote:
Separately, according to Meehan's statement, Kerry crossed into Cambodia on a covert mission to drop off special operations forces. In an interview, Meehan said there was no paperwork for such missions and he could not supply a date. That makes it hard to ascertain or confirm what happened. Kerry served on two swift boats, the No. 44 in December 1968 and January 1969, and the No. 94, from February to March 1969.
Michael Medeiros, who served aboard the No. 94 with Kerry and appeared with him at the Democratic National Convention, vividly recalled an occasion on which Kerry and the crew chased an enemy to the Cambodian border but did not go beyond the border. Yet Medeiros said he could not recall dropping off special forces in Cambodia or going inside Cambodia with Kerry.

This is the best hard news story I've seen on this subject though it failed to bring up all of Kerry's quotes or demand that Kerry release ALL of his military records or bring up the fact that Kerry has claimed that he dropped up CIA agents and that he was running guns to anti-communist forces in Cambodia. Which was it?

As Mr. Blankely said in Townhall: I love the smell of a political lie in the moring . . . it smells like defeat.

People,

If the Boston Globe is now questioning Kerry in a NEWS article and CNN is now investigating, this really is the beginning of the end for Kerry. Neither organization wants Bush to win (even if they don't flat out admit it).

Follow-up question for anyone who knows:
Medeiros, one of Kerry's Band of Brothers, says that he can't remember ever going on a mission to Cambodia with Kerry. He served on boat No. 94.

From what I can gather Gardner was with Kerry on boat No. 44 and he says they never went to Cambodia.

Did both these guys serve with Kerry the entire time he commanded each boat?
If they did then Kerry has no window to say that it was another time that he went to Cambodia and that these guys just weren't there.

I love this article link
http://www.townhall.com/columnists/tonyblankley/tb20040818.shtml

Can anyone confirm which boat Kerry was serving on at the time?
(Christmas 1968) because James Wasser says he was with Kerry That night in the above metioned Kerry rebuttal. He also makes it sound as if There were no accompanying boats

Wow, great article pmc3rcc!

Not only did Kerry believe he was Martin Sheen in "Apocalypse Now", he's hoping to be him again in "The West Wing"!!!

Frightening.

Remember though, Martin Sheen was also aspiring for POTUS in "The Dead Zone" and didn't end up so well. Wink

I wonder if they will allow Kerry to go face to face with any interviewer or reporter now? They have been trying hard to get the Swift Vet Ad off the air, before he goes on another interview.

Why do you think he won't take the stand and speak up for himself?
